Reninoma: An Occult Etiology of Hypertension Requiring Repeated Diagnostic Evaluation and Managed by Tumor Enucleation: A Case Report. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Case Rep
ABSTRACT Reninoma may be undetectable on initial imaging, and repeat diagnostic evaluation is essential when biochemical suspicion persists. Intraoperative ultrasonography can enable precise localization, allowing minimally invasive tumor enucleation instead of partial or radical nephrectomy in appropriately selected patients.

Mitigation of Radiation Induced Pulmonary Vascular Injury by Delayed Treatment with Captopril [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background and Objective: A single dose of 10 Gy radiation to the thorax of rats results in decreased total lung angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity, pulmonary artery distensibility and distal vascular density while increasing pulmonary ...

Effect of Apium graveolens Extract Administration on the Pharmacokinetics of Captopril in the Plasma of Rats

open access: yesScientia Pharmaceutica, 2018
Apium graveolens (celery) is an edible and traditionally medicinal plant that is used worldwide, among others for the treatment of hypertension. Combining celery with antihypertensive drugs can affect the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the ...

The exenatide analogue AC3174 attenuates hypertension, insulin resistance, and renal dysfunction in Dahl salt-sensitive rats

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2010
Background Activation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors improves insulin sensitivity and induces vasodilatation and diuresis. AC3174 is a peptide analogue with pharmacologic properties similar to the GLP-1 receptor agonist, exenatide ...

Risk of Acute Kidney Injury Associated With Nephrotoxic Burden in Hospitalized Patients: A Scoping Review. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Pharmacol Ther
Limited evidence exists synthesizing the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) associated with the concomitant administration of multiple nephrotoxic drugs, and even less examining the concept of nephrotoxic burden. The objective of this scoping review was to (1) identify definitions of nephrotoxic burden; (2) methods used to quantify (use of calculations)

Lysine Biosynthesis in Bacteria: A Metallodesuccinylase as a Potential Antimicrobial Target [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this review, we summarize the recent literature on dapE-encoded N-succinyl-l,l-diaminopimelic acid desuccinylase (DapE) enzymes, with an emphasis on structure–function studies that provide insight into the catalytic mechanism.

Comparative effectiveness of enalapril, lisinopril, and ramipril in the treatment of patients with chronic heart failure: a propensity score-matched cohort study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) are recommended as first-line therapy in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). The comparative effectiveness of different ACEIs is not known. Methods and results:

Merging Biocatalysis and Chemocatalysis in Flow: State‐of‐the‐Art and Future Directions for Sustainable Synthesis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in integrating biocatalysis and chemocatalysis in continuous flow to create streamlined, sustainable processes. It examines chemo‐enzymatic cascades combining at least one enzymatic and one chemical step, discusses challenges such as enzyme immobilization, leaching, and reactor clogging, and presents solutions ...
