Prevalence and phenotypic characterization of carbapenem resistance in multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria across selected healthcare facilities in the United Arab Emirates: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Carbapenems are essential antibiotics used to treat severe nosocomial infections. However, the misuse of these antibiotics has led to the emergence of carbapenem-resistant organisms (CROs), posing significant public health threats.

The Role of Neonatal Ward Environment as a Reservoir for the Dissemination of Multidrug‐Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in Algeria

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
Whole‐genome sequencing of multidrug‐resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae from a neonatal ward environment in Chlef revealed persistent resistance genes and the clonal spread of high‐risk ST13. These findings highlight the hospital environment as a potential reservoir for transmission of resistant K. pneumoniae.

Detection and Characterization of ESBL‐Producing and Carbapenem‐Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in Ornamental Birds and Their Surrounding Environments

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
Multidrug‐resistant ESBL‐ and carbapenem‐resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae were identified from ornamental birds, their handlers and surrounding environments, carrying key virulence and resistant genes, highlighting potential One Health transmission risks between animals, humans and the associated environments.

Early procalcitonin kinetics as an independent predictor of mortality in multi-drug resistant Klebsiella spp. bloodstream infections: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Klebsiella spp. causing bloodstream infections (BSIs) with resistance to carbapenems and/or colistin are associated with high mortality and limited treatment options.

Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae Infections: A Systematic Review of Clinical, Microbiological, and Outcome Data From Reported Cases

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
Distribution of organ involvement in reported hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae cases. Studies restricted to isolated liver abscess cases were excluded. Percentages represent the proportion of cases with documented involvement of each anatomical site among cases with available data.
