Novel and emerging antimicrobial strategies in the management of oral infections

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Antibiotics marked a pivotal turning point in human civilization, enhancing social interactions and extending human life expectancy. In addition to their success in treating systemic infectious diseases, they have significantly improved periodontal treatment outcomes as an adjunct therapy.

A comparison of phenotypic methods for the detection of carbapenemase in Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries
Introduction: Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) isolates are increasingly spreading in the community and pose a serious public health threat. Rapid and accurate detection of these isolates is therefore critical.

The Boron–Neuron Connection: The Potential of Boron‐Containing Molecules for Treating Incurable Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 21, 12 November 2026.
Can a single element help address the multifactorial nature of ALS? Boron‐containing compounds combine responsiveness to reactive oxygen species (ROS), neuroprotective activity, and favorable pharmacological properties, offering a distinctive framework for disease modification in a complex disease like ALS.

Bacterial Agents and Their Multidrug‐Resistance Profile Among Patients Suspected of Bacterial Infections in Hakim Gizaw Hospital, Debre Berhan, Ethiopia: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Antimicrobial resistance is a global threat. Bacteria showed higher resistance in Ethiopia, and up‐to‐date data on it is urgently required for effective interventions. This study aimed to determine occurrence of multi‐drug‐resistant (MDR) bacterial isolates among patients presented to Hakim Gizaw Hospital (HGH).

Antimicrobial Resistance in Periodontal Disease: Rethinking Adjunctive Therapy in the Metagenomics Era, the Pressing Need for Precision Treatment and Periodontal Resistome Mapping

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 21, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Systemic antibiotics are effective when used as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of periodontitis; however, their use must be balanced against antimicrobial resistance, which is a major threat to global public health. This review provides an expert synthesis of the literature and a field‐level overview of antimicrobial resistance in ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 600, Issue 19, Page 2947-2960, October 2026.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
