2,3‐Diboratabutadiene Complexes of Group 4 Metals and their Donor‐Induced Oxidative Cleavage to Methyleneboranes

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
GA: We here report the first perarylated 2,3‐diboratabutadiene dianion and its reaction with Cp2MCl2 (M = Zr, Hf) to afford unprecedented 2,3‐diboratabutadiene π‐complexes with unique coordination modes. Addition of an N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) to the complexes gives rise to the donor‐induced oxidation of the BB bond, resulting in two separate NHC ...

Evidences of the Stabilization for Weeks of the Benzyl Cation in Zeolites

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
The benzyl cation is plausibly formed inside zeolites after rearrangement of individually isolated tropylium cations at room temperature. The benzyl cation–entrapped zeolite is stable for weeks without any storage precaution, and a solid–state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of this iconic carbocation could be recorded.

The Versatility of Diazirines: Properties, Synthetic and Modern Applications

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Diazirines are 3‐membered heterocycles containing two nitrogen atoms connected by a double bond. They possess a multi‐faceted reactivity that holds great potential for organic synthesis. This review discusses their properties, modes of activation, and their many modern uses, underlining their underappreciated versatility: as carbene precursors, but ...

Enhanced Reactivity of N‐heterocyclic Halophosphines and Phosphenium Cations: The Activation of Carbon─Heteroatom and Boron─Heteroatom Bonds

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Novel class of saturated NHPs with phosphoramidothioate substituents exhibit enhanced reactivity in photoinitiated transfer hydrogenation reactions and activate C─O, B─H, B─C, and B─F bonds via phosphenium cation formation. Abstract N‐heterocyclic phosphines (NHPs), and especially their ionic derivatives, phosphenium cations, have gained significant ...

Chemical Properties of an Aryloxenium Cation with a Triplet Electronic Ground State

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Accepted Article.
Aryloxenium cations contain a formally positively‐charged, monovalent oxygen atom with an incomplete electron shell. In spite of this unusual structural element, they are key intermediates in many important processes, such as biological oxidation reactions and the industrial generation of thermoplastics.
