Modular Synthesis of Unsymmetrical 1,1’‐Disubstituted Ferrocenes by Sequential Suzuki‐Miyaura Cross‐Coupling of 1,1’‐Diborylferrocene

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A facile synthesis of unsymmetrical 1,1’‐disubstituted ferrocene derivatives based on the desymmetrization of 1,1’‐diborylferrocene was developed. Suzuki‐Miyaura cross‐coupling (SMCC) reaction of 1,1’‐diborylferrocene afforded mono‐substituted products without significant loss of the second boryl group, and the subsequent second SMCC reaction afforded ...

The Genuine Carbene Conundrum

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
From fleeting intermediates to well‐defined molecular structures, carbenes (neutral divalent carbon) remind us that the most reactive ideas often make a large impact. Despite their wide‐ranging applications, the direct characterization of these reactive species remains a persistent experimental challenge.

Mass Spectrometric Studies of Reductive Elimination from Si(IV) Anions

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Reductive elimination of ArO─H (Ar = aromatic residue) bonds from pentacoordinate SiIV is characterized by mass spectrometric methods. A Hammet study of substituent effects combined with DFT calculations supports a stepwise mechanism involving a loosely bound aryloxide/hydrosilane ion‐molecule complex as an intermediate. Abstract Reductive elimination (

Zinc(II) Monomeric, Dimeric, and Trimeric Photosensitizers with Microsecond‐Lived Intra‐Ligand Charge Transfer Excited States Investigated Through Time‐Resolved Optical and X‐Ray Spectroscopy

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
An array of spectroscopic methods including femto‐nanosecond optical transient absorption and nanosecond X‐ray absorption spectroscopies resolve the singlet intraligand charge transfer (1ILCT) and triplet (3ILCT) states in a family of Monomeric, Dimeric, and Trimeric Zn‐based photosensitizers with phenanthroline‐derived ligands.

Productive Homogeneous Hydrogenation of Fatty Esters with Carboxylate SNS Ruthenium Catalysts

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Carboxylate ruthenium complexes, prepared from easily accessible ruthenium precursors and bis(2‐(ethylthio)ethyl)amine (SNS ligand), efficiently catalyze the hydrogenation (HY) of methyl decanoate (model for the FAME reduction) to 1‐decanol with H2 under mild conditions and without solvents.
