Understanding Small Molecule Activation Promoted by Heavier Benzene 1,4‐diides: Interplay Between Diradical Character and Aromaticity

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The intricate relationship between diradical character, aromaticity, and reactivity in annulated heavier Group 14 benzene‐1,4‐diides (see picture) has been investigated through Density Functional Theory and ab initio calculations. A direct correlation between reactivity and diradical character, both of which increase down Group 14, is found.

Tuning the 2LMCT Deactivation of Cyclometalated Iron Carbene Complexes with Electronic Substituent Effects

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Bromo‐ or furanyl‐substituents on a cyclometalated iron(III) N‐heterocyclic complex stabilize the 2LMCT state to very different extent. With substantially different 2LMCT energies and lifetimes, the two cases illustrate the balance between non‐radiative deactivation directly to the ground state or via metal‐centered states.

Reversible and Irreversible Regioselective Alkyne Insertion into a Silyl‐Substituted Stannylene

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Alkyne insertion into the Sn─Si bond of a silyl‐substituted stannylene occurs regio‐selectively and ‐ in the cases of more sterically encumbered substrates ‐ reversibly Abstract A range of aryl‐ and alkyl‐ substituted alkynes has been shown to insert regio‐selectively into the Sn─Si bond of the electron‐rich aryl(silyl)stannylene, ArMesSnSi(SiMe3)3 ...
