Low temperature carbene-to-carbene homologations
Research on Chemical Intermediates, 1994Since alkynes have higher symmetry than olefins, it is not easy to infer the mechanism of a triplet carbene’s addition to an alkyne by traditional product analysis studies. Specifically, no stereochemical information which might offer insight into the carbene’s spin state can be extracted from the cyclopropene products.

Are There Carbenes in N‐Heterocyclic Carbene Organocatalysis?
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2017AbstractAzolium cations are widely employed in organocatalysis to catalyse highly valuable synthetic processes in the presence of a base. These reactions are called “N‐heterocyclic carbene catalysis”, based on the assumption that they are initiated by the formation of a free carbene through deprotonation, which can then react with the substrates and ...

Carbene Olefin Complexes and Carbene Philicity
Tetrahedron Letters, 1983Abstract The effect of carbene-olefin complexation on the relationship between absolute rates obtained by laser flash photolysis and product ratios are considered. The conditions needed to give linear Hammett plots in the complex mechanism are detailed.
