Physicochemical method for determining the total volume fraction of carbides in annealed high-speed steels

Materials Characterization, 1991
Abstract A physicochemical method is described for determining the total volume fraction of carbides, υc, in annealed high-speed steels. The method requires determining the density of the steel (ϱ), the density of the ferrite matrix (ϱα), and the mass fraction of ferrite (mα), then utilizing the equation υc = 1.0 − mαϱ/ϱα.
