The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effects of Altitudinal Gradient on Physicochemical and Rheological Potential of Quinoa Cultivars

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2022
The protein, carbohydrate, and fat characteristics of quinoa grains reflect in their techno-functional potential. This aspect has been little studied in quinoa, while some physicochemical and rheological characteristics have been generalized for all ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Human coronavirus HKU1 spike structures reveal the basis for sialoglycan specificity and carbohydrate-promoted conformational changes

open access: yesNature Communications
The human coronavirus HKU1 uses both sialoglycoconjugates and the protein transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) as receptors. Carbohydrate binding leads to the spike protein up conformation required for TMPRSS2 binding, an outcome suggesting a ...

Interaction of Chondroitin and Hyaluronan Glycosaminoglycans with Surfaces of Carboxylated Carbon Nanotubes Studied Using Molecular Dynamics Simulations

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Interaction of β-D-glucopyranuronic acid (GlcA), N-acetyl-β-D-glucosamine (GlcNAc), N-acetyl-β-D-galactosamine (GalNAc) and two natural decameric glycosaminoglycans, hyaluronic acid (HA) and Chondroitin (Ch) with carboxylated carbon nanotubes, were ...

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Acetyl α-d-2,3,4-triacetyllyxopyranoside

open access: yesIUCrData
The structure of the title compound, C13H18O9, has monoclinic (P21) symmetry. It is of interest with respect to stereochemistry and the anomeric effect. Two acetyl subsituents adopt equatorial orientations and two are axial.

Isolation and characterization of acetylated LM-pectins extracted from okra pods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Pectin was isolated by aqueous extraction at pH 6.0 or 2.0 from okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) pods. An isolation protocol was designed to extract pectin and to study the influence of the extraction pH on their composition and physicochemical ...
