Disorders of carbohydrate metabolism

2011
Abstract Many disorders of carbohydrate metabolism are characterized by hypoglycaemia and attacks of neuroglycopenia. Hypoglycaemia can also be caused by disorders affecting the use of other fuels, such as those producing fatty acids and ketone bodies which are important alternative sources of energy.

Disorders of Carbohydrate Metabolism

1985
Fuel metabolism is a complicated and finely regulated process. This chapter concentrates on disorders of carbohydrate metabolism as they relate to the pregnant state. This chapter does not review carbohydrate metabolism in pregnancy in detail. For this purpose, the reader is referred to Chapters 4 and 21 and standard references.

Impaired Carbohydrate Metabolism in Metabolic Disorders

2020
Metabolic disorders, also known as inborn errors of metabolism, are a group of inherited genetic disorders due to enzymatic deficiency caused by some defective genes. There are over 600 genetic metabolic disorders discovered so far, many of them are present in newborns or after a short time thereafter.

[Disorder of carbohydrate metabolism].

Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 2004
The worldwide epidemic of type 2 diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance is a crucial health problem. Since disorder of carbohydrate metabolism causes arteriosclerosis in combination with other metabolic abnormalities such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity, it has now been recognized as one manifestation of the metabolic syndrome, a condition

Disorders of Carbohydrate and Lipid Metabolism in Uremia

Nephron, 2008
Glucose intolerance and hypertriglyceridemia appear to be frequent metabolic concomitants of chronic uremia. Both these abnormalities are ameliorated but not eliminated by intensive hemodialysis and aggressive treatment of the uremic state. The plasma lipid alteration appears to result principally from disturbances in both the production and catabolism

Disorders of Carbohydrate or Lipid Metabolism in Camelids

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 2009
Camelids develop a number of disturbances related to energy metabolism. Some are similar to disorders seen in other species, but most relate to camelids' unusual characteristics of poor glucose tolerance, partial insulin resistance, and low concentrations of circulating insulin.
