Targeting Tumor-Associated Carbonic Anhydrases in Photothermal Therapy. [PDF]

open access: yesChemMedChem
Tumor‐associated carbonic anhydrases hCA IX and hCA XII, are overexpressed in hypoxic tumor regions and promote cancer cell survival. Targeting these enzymes enhances the efficacy of photothermal therapy (PTT), which uses NIR light for localized heat and apoptosis, representing a promising approach for cancer treatment.

SEC‐SAXS/MC Ensemble Structural Studies of the Microtubule Binding Protein Cdt1 Show Monomeric, Folded‐Over Conformations

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cdt1 is a mixed folded protein critical for DNA replication licensing and it also has a “moonlighting” role at the kinetochore via direct binding to microtubules and the Ndc80 complex. However, it is unknown how the structure and conformations of Cdt1 could allow it to participate in these multiple, unique sets of protein complexes.

4-Amino-substituted Benzenesulfonamides as Inhibitors of Human Carbonic Anhydrases

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
A series of N-aryl-β-alanine derivatives and diazobenzenesulfonamides containing aliphatic rings were designed, synthesized, and their binding to carbonic anhydrases (CA) I, II, VI, VII, XII, and XIII was studied by the fluorescent thermal shift assay ...

Continuous Titration Based Method for Rapid In‐Solution Analysis of Non‐Covalent Interactions

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, EarlyView.
This work presents cSPRING, which combines Taylor dispersion with ratiometric fluorescence detection to measure binding affinities (Kd) in a single experiment. This in‐solution method reduces sample preparation time 8‐fold, requires only nanograms of protein, and provides results in under a minute, demonstrating efficiency for screening protein‐small ...

Annual Banned‐Substance Review 17th Edition—Analytical Approaches in Human Sports Drug Testing 2023/2024

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Scenarios of drug exposure and administration as well as detection assays for drugs and methods of sports doping published between 2023 and 2024 are critically reviewed and evaluated in context with the Prohibited List 2024 as established by the World Anti‐Doping Agency.

Neglecting acclimation of photosynthesis under drought can cause significant errors in predicting leaf photosynthesis in wheat

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 29, Issue 2, Page 505-521, January 2023., 2023
Our study investigated how photosynthesis and its components acclimate to drought stress (DS) and growth temperature (Tgrowth) in wheat, and examined to what extent ignoring these acclimations would lead to errors in predicting photosynthesis. We found that both diffusional and biochemical parameters of photosynthesis and their thermal sensitivity ...

Ketogenic diet therapy for the treatment of pediatric epilepsy

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract In 1921, the classic ketogenic diet was created at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to treat epilepsy in children and adults. Over a century later, it is a widely used, standard‐of‐care therapy for typically treatment‐resistant epilepsy worldwide.

Mechanistic insights into the primary and secondary alterations of renal ion and water transport in the distal nephron

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 293, Issue 1, Page 4-22, January 2023., 2023
Abstract The kidneys, by equilibrating the outputs to the inputs, are essential for maintaining the constant volume, pH, and electrolyte composition of the internal milieu. Inability to do so, either because of internal kidney dysfunction (primary alteration) or because of some external factors (secondary alteration), leads to pathologies of varying ...

Knock-down of hypoxia-induced carbonic anhydrases IX and XII radiosensitizes tumor cells by increasing intracellular acidosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2013
The relationship between acidosis within the tumor microenvironment and radioresistance of hypoxic tumor cells remains unclear. Previously we reported that hypoxia-induced carbonic anhydrases CAIX and CAXII constitute a robust pHi-regulating system that ...
