An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Differential characteristics of internal structures of strike-slip faults and their multiscale interactive identification mode: a case study of Carboniferous volcanic rocks in Chepaizi Uplift, Junggar Basin

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi
Multi-phase transpressive strike-slip faults are well developed in the Carboniferous strata of the Chepaizi Uplift, Junggar Basin. These faults are characterized by severe weathering at the top, strong heterogeneity, poor stratification, and indistinct ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Reservoir Formation Model and Main Controlling Factors of the Carboniferous Volcanic Reservoir in the Hong-Che Fault Zone, Junggar Basin

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The Hong-Che Fault Zone is one of the important oil and gas enrichment zones in the Junggar Basin, especially in the Carboniferous. In recent five years, it has been proven that the Carboniferous volcanic rock has 140 million tons of oil reserves, and ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Unravelling the relative contributions of climate change and ground disturbance to subsurface temperature perturbations: Case studies from Tyneside, UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
When assessing subsurface urban heat islands (UHIs) it is important to distinguish between localized effects of land-use change and the impacts of global climate change. However, few investigations have successfully unraveled the two influences.

Paleopteran molecular clock: Time drift and recent acceleration

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Applying BEAST v1.10.4, we constructed a Bayesian Inference tree comprising 322 taxa, primarily representing Paleoptera (Odonata and Ephemeroptera; Pterygota), Zygentoma and Archaeognatha (Apterygota; paraphyly), and Neoptera (Plecoptera; Pterygota ...

Formation mechanisms and distribution of weathered volcanic reservoirs: A case study of the carboniferous volcanic rocks in Northwest Junggar Basin, China

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2020
In view of the complex reservoir heterogeneities within weathered volcanic rocks, taking the Carboniferous volcanic weathered profile reservoir of the northwest Junggar Basin as an example, this study aims to characterize weathered volcanic rocks by the ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

The Western Irish Namurian Basin reassessed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Current basin models for the Western Irish Namurian Basin (WINB) envisage an elongate trough along the line of the present-day Shannon Estuary that was infilled with clastic sediments derived from a hinterland that lay to the W or NW.
