Anaerobic Limonene Metabolism in a Methanogenic Enrichment Involves a Glycine Radical Enzyme
A methanogenic enrichment culture on the natural monoterpene limonene is characterised by a novel glycine radical enzyme for anaerobic hydrocarbon activation, the presence of a microbial loop for necromass utilisation and the presence of a predator of Bacteria and Archaea. ABSTRACT Limonene is a natural monoterpene omnipresent in human environments. It

Metabolic Origin, Role and Fate of the Denaturant Guanidine
The origin of metabolic guanidine is largely a mystery. We suggest it is created when guanine‐containing nucleotides are oxidised by molecular oxygen instead of being broken down into urea as purines normally would. Guanidine may act as a signal to help cells control the level of reactive oxygen species.

Pectin Metabolism Influences Phloem Architecture and Flowering Time in Arabidopsis Thaliana
Cell wall remodeling mediated by changes in pectic homogalacturonan, including its methyl‐esterification status and degradation, shapes wall architecture. This study finds that pectin metabolism dynamically modulates wall properties and triggers auxin responses, which influence phloem morphogenesis and function, mediating the long‐distance transport of

Multiple enzymes play a crucial role in regulating the biosynthesis of de novo sphingolipids. This regulation starts with the rate‐limiting enzyme, serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT), which catalyzes the first step of the pathway. Disruptions in this regulatory process can lead to serious diseases.

In Hyphomicrobium denitrificans, the use of thiosulfate as a supplemental electron donor is regulated by two homologous sulfane‐sulfur responsive ArsR‐type transcriptional repressors, sHdrR and SoxR, that act cooperatively. Remarkably, the regulation by sHdrR/SoxR extends far beyond sulfur oxidation and deeply affects anaerobic metabolism, particularly

A putative thrazarine biosynthetic gene cluster is discovered in the genome sequence of Streptomyces coerulescens MH802‐fF5. In vivo and in vitro analyses of ThzN, a hydrazine synthetase with cupin and methionyl‐tRNA synthetase‐like domains encoded in the cluster, showed that it synthesizes a key intermediate of thrazarine by catalyzing condensation ...

Re‐evaluation of neotame (E 961) as food additive
Abstract The present opinion deals with the re‐evaluation of neotame (E 961) as a food additive. Neotame is the chemically manufactured compound N‐[N‐(3,3‐dimethylbutyl)‐l‐α‐aspartyl]‐l‐phenylalanine 1‐methyl ester. The main impurity of neotame (E 961) is also a degradation product (de‐esterified form), N‐[N‐(3,3‐dimethylbutyl)‐l‐α‐aspartyl]‐L ...
