A structural examination of agrochemical processing by human carboxylesterase 1
Human carboxylesterase 1 (hCE1) is the primary carboxylesterase expressed in the liver. This critical member of the phase I drug metabolism pathway detoxifies a wide-range of endobiotics, xenobiotics, and agrochemicals. To date, more than a dozen X-ray crystal structures have been elucidated of hCE1 in complex with a broad spectrum of ligands ...

Engaging Gut‐to‐Brain Signalling to Treat Alcohol Use Disorder
ABSTRACT According to the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 28.9 million people ages 12 and older in the United States had alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the past year. Although chronic alcohol use contributes to numerous health disorders as well as being an economic burden, there are few medications approved for treatment of AUD, and

In this study, we used Foxp3‐fatemapping mice to examine the cell lineage stability of Treg cells in pregnancy. Ex‐Foxp3 cells were identified in gestational tissues. However, Treg cells retained lineage stability with no increased ex‐Foxp3 generation, regardless of inflammatory challenges that induce preterm birth.

QuaDMutEx: quadratic driver mutation explorer [PDF]
Background Somatic mutations accumulate in human cells throughout life. Some may have no adverse consequences, but some of them may lead to cancer. A cancer genome is typically unstable, and thus more mutations can accumulate in the DNA of cancer cells ...

Bioactive lipid metabolism by carboxylesterase 1 (CES1) in macrophages (LB154)
Human carboxylesterases (CES) have an emerging role in lipid metabolism. CES1 in macrophages is a hydrolase with broad endogenous substrate specificity, including cholesteryl ester, triacylglycerol, and 2‐arachidonoylglycerol (2‐AG), which may be relevant to cardiovascular disease and other pathologies related to lipid metabolism dysfunction.

Characterization of esterase activity from the bacteria, Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of tularemia [PDF]
Francisella tularensis is the bacteria responsible for causing the disease tularemia and is listed as one of the top three-biowarfare agents. Among the proteins essential to the virulence and infectivity of F.tularensis are multiple esterases, which are ...
