Bladder Squamous Cell Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesRadioGraphics, 2004
History A 50-year-old male Vietnam War veteran presented with a 26-year history of traumatic paraplegia. The patient had total left hip disarticulation and bilateral amputations below the knee. Lateral bladder augmentation and cystoplasty had been performed in 1989, but lower urinary tract drainage had been achieved with suprapubic catheterization for ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Immunohistochemical and mutational status of telomerase reverse transcriptase in conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2022
Purpose: Mutations in human telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) are associated with increased telomerase activity in cutaneous melanomas. Conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma, also referred to as ocular surface squamous cell carcinoma, is cancer on ...

Maintenance of head and neck tumor on-chip: gateway to personalized treatment? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aim: Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) are solid tumors with low overall survival (40–60%). In a move toward personalized medicine, maintenance of tumor biopsies in microfluidic tissue culture devices is being developed. Methodology/ results:

TTF-1/p63-positive poorly differentiated NSCLC: A histogenetic hypothesis from the basal reserve cell of the terminal respiratory unit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
TTF-1 is expressed in the alveolar epithelium and in the basal cells of distal terminal bronchioles. It is considered the most sensitive and specific marker to define the adenocarcinoma arising from the terminal respiratory unit (TRU). TTF-1, CK7, CK5/6,

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Incomplete Excision of Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma; Systematic Review of the Literature

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 2020
The treatment of choice for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is complete surgical excision. Incomplete excision of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma has an increased risk of local recurrence, deep subclinical progression, and metastasis.
