Ethical issues in tissue engineering

open access: yes, 2008
Tissue Engineering (or regenerative medicine) is a rapidly developing field of research pursued by very different branches of medicine. The most results are published by orthopedists [28] and cardiologists, but meanwhile, there is nearly no special ...

Upscaling the Fabrication of Rod‐Shaped Microgels: A Microfluidic Method Combining Step‐Emulsification With Consecutive Droplet Confinement in Parallelized Microchannels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A microfluidic method is presented which enables parallelized fabrication of rod‐shaped microgels, based on step‐emulsification (SE) droplet generation and subsequent droplet distribution and confinement, combined in a single device. Microgel rods are fabricated in parallel at different flow rates based on two light‐mediated crosslinking chemistries ...

Self‐Assembling Copolymers Encapsulating Single Endothelial Cells Induce Endogenous ECM Deposition and Vascular Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the first demonstration of stable sub‐50‐micron single‐cell GPM vesicles fabricated through the intrinsic self‐assembly of an amphiphilic copolymer. Hierarchical assembly of cell containing GPM vesicles into microspheres enable tunable, sustained cell delivery with immune protection.
