Toxicity of cancer therapy: what the cardiologist needs to know about angiogenesis inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Clinical outcomes for patients with a wide range of malignancies have improved substantially over the last two decades. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are potent signalling cascade inhibitors and have been responsible for significant advances in ...

PICALM Regulating the Generation of Amyloid β‐Peptide to Promote Anthracycline‐Induced Cardiotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Anthracyclines are chemotherapeutic drugs used to treat solid and hematologic malignancies. However, life‐threatening cardiotoxicity, with cardiac dilation and heart failure, is a drawback.

Sulfate‐Directed Silver Dendrites with Enhanced Stability for Ultrasensitive SERS‐Based Therapeutic Drug Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents sulfate‐directed silver dendrites (s‐AgDs) as oxidation‐resistant SERS substrates with long‐term stability, reproducibility, and sub‐picomolar sensitivity. Sulfate ions guide anisotropic growth and protect the surface, enabling improved performance over 7 months under ambient conditions.

Evidence linking exposure of fish primary macrophages to antibiotics activates the NF-kB pathway. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Low doses of antibiotics are ubiquitous in the marine environment and may exert negative effects on non-target aquatic organisms. Using primary macrophages of common carp, we investigated the mechanisms of action following exposure to several common ...

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy and trastuzumab versus neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by post-operative trastuzumab for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus trastuzumab (NCT) increases the rate of pathological complete response (pCR) and event-free survival (EFS) compared to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NC) alone in women with HER2 positive breast cancer (BC).

Antihypertensive Past Adherence Trajectories and Risk of Cardiotoxicity Among Adults Initiating Anthracycline Treatment. [PDF]

open access: yesPharmacoepidemiol Drug Saf
ABSTRACT Background Poor blood pressure control and low adherence to antihypertensives increase the risk for anthracycline‐induced cardiotoxicity (AIC) in hypertensive cancer patients. Little is known about whether past adherence to antihypertensive medications can reduce the risk of AIC in patients initiating anthracyclines.

Gel‐Amin for Improving Extracellular Recordings of Cardiomyocytes in a 3D Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This work combines a conductive collagen‐based hydrogel with a laser‐cut and assembly technique to fabricate microphysiological systems that improve extracellular recordings of cardiomyocytes in 3D on microelectrode arrays. The inclusion of choline acrylate into GelMA imparts a higher electrical conductivity and improves the signal‐to‐noise ratio of on‐
