Midterm outcomes of endoscopic-assisted brachial-basilic arteriovenous fistula creation

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery Cases and Innovative Techniques
Endoscopic vein harvest remains underused in single-stage brachial-basilic arteriovenous fistula creation. We analyzed our results with the use of this technique in a cohort of predominantly obese (body mass index ≥30 kg/m2) patients.

Coil Embolization of Coronary-Cameral Fistula Complicating Revascularization of Chronic Total Occlusion

open access: yesCase Reports in Cardiology, 2018
Traumatic vessel perforation is a potential complication of chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary artery intervention (PCI). A rare consequence of this complication is a coronary-cameral fistula. The management of this condition is not well

Development of tubular cardiovascular phantom system for pulse transit time simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper presents on the development of a tubular cardiovascular phantom system to simulate pulse transit time (PTT). The PTT defined as the delay time between two pulses in one cardiac cycle has been shown to be promising method for cuffless ...

Feasibility and Preliminary Efficacy of Integrative Neuromuscular Training for Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Pilot Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) often exhibit early deficits in muscle and movement competence, which can compromise long‐term health. Integrative neuromuscular training (INT), a multifaceted approach combining fundamental movement activities with strength exercises, may help address these deficits during ...

Body Mass Index and Risk for Mental Stress-Induced Ischemia in Coronary Artery Disease

open access: yesMolecular Medicine, 2016
Acute emotionally reactive mental stress (MS) can provoke prognostically relevant deficits in cardiac function and myocardial perfusion, and chronic inflammation increases risk for this ischemic phenomenon.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Drug treatment of hypertension: focus on vascular health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hypertension, the most common preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease and death, is a growing health burden. Serious cardiovascular complications result from target organ damage including cerebrovascular disease, heart failure, ischaemic heart

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Ectopic MYBL2-Mediated Regulation of Androglobin Gene Expression

open access: yesCells
Androglobin (ADGB) is a highly conserved and recently identified member of the globin superfamily. Although previous studies revealed a link to ciliogenesis and an involvement in murine spermatogenesis, its physiological function remains mostly unknown ...
