Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 13, Issue 8, Page 1543-1557, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Temporal Immune and Metabolic Shifts Drive the Anti‐Tumor Efficacy of Resiquimod‐Loaded Nanoparticles in Peritoneal Carcinomatosis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 30, 14 August 2026.
Peritoneal carcinomatosis is a hard‐to‐treat spread of abdominal cancers that often returns after therapy. Nanoparticles were developed to retain an immune‐boosting drug in the abdomen. When combined with chemotherapy in mice, this approach eliminated tumors in many cases and prevented recurrence, helping the immune system mount a stronger, longer ...

Disorders of carnitine transport and the carnitine cycle [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics, Part C: Seminars in Medical Genetics, 2006
AbstractCarnitine plays an essential role in the transfer of long‐chain fatty acids across the inner mitochondrial membrane. This transfer requires enzymes and transporters that accumulate carnitine within the cell (OCTN2 carnitine transporter), conjugate it with long chain fatty acids (carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1, CPT1), transfer the ...

Effect of Carnitine Analogs on Carnitine Acetyltransferase

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1980
Carnitine analogs with various substituents on the nitrogen were tested for their effect on carnitine acetyltransferase from rat sperm and pigeon breast. A radiometric assay was used to measure the formation of acetylcarnitine in the presence of other enzymes that competed for acetyl coenzyme A in the sperm preparation.
