Banana MaSPL16 Modulates Carotenoid Biosynthesis during Fruit Ripening Through Activating the Transcription of Lycopene β-Cyclase Genes.

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2019
Carotenoids are a kind of bioactive compounds that exhibit health-promoting properties for humans, but their regulation in bananas during fruit ripening remains largely unclear.

Industrial Biosynthesis of Carotenoids

1989
A number of major advances in the industry of biosynthesis of carotenoids have been made including the development of a new method of production. This chapter, therefore, includes a brief general review of biosynthesis by vascular plants followed by a detailed description of industrial production of carotenoids by algae.

Biosynthesis of Chloroplast Carotenoids

1990
The photosynthetic pigments of higher plants comprise not only the chlorophylls (a and b) but also a range of carotenoids. The main ones of these are s-carotene (usually 25–30% of the total carotenoids) and the xanthophylls lutein (45–50%), violaxanthin (ca. 15%) and neoxanthin (ca. 15%), though small amounts of others, e.g.

Inhibition of carotenoid biosynthesis

1993
The inhibition of carotenoid biosynthesis has been studied for some 40 years. The earliest investigations, using compounds which cause the accumulation of less unsaturated carotenoids, particularly phytoene, were aimed at the elucidation of the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway (e.g. see Goodwin 1952; Goodwin and Land 1956).

Carotenoid Biosynthesis — An Overview

1989
The last time an overview of carotenoid biosynthesis was presented in this Symposium series was at the Bern meeting in 1975, when Davies and Taylor [1] and Britton [2] reviewed the early stages and later reactions, respectively. However, biosynthesis has not been neglected in the three meetings since then.
