Horizontal gene transfer contributes to plant evolution : the case of Agrobacterium T-DNAs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) can be defined as the acquisition of genetic material from another organism without being its offspring. HGT is common in the microbial world including archaea and bacteria, where HGT mechanisms are widely understood and ...

Chlorella vulgaris biorefineries: sustainable biofuels and high‐value carbon capture

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Global reliance on fossil fuels has created urgent economic and environmental challenges, yet large‐scale use of algal biomass remains limited by production costs. Industrial scaling is constrained by inefficient harvesting and the technical challenges of processing recalcitrant cell walls.

Carotenoid Biosynthesis in Rhodotorula glutinis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1974
It was determined that lycopene could be cyclized directly by Rhodotorula glutinis . It was also shown the the temperature effect (i.e., increased β-carotene synthesis in response to lower incubation temperatures) in R. glutinis was controlled by changes in enzyme concentration.

Does abscisic acid affect strigolactone biosynthesis? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Strigolactones are considered a novel class of plant hormones that, in addition to their endogenous signalling function, are exuded into the rhizosphere acting as a signal to stimulate hyphal branching of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and germination
