Blue Light Receptor PHR2‐Mediated Spectrum Antiviral Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Blue light suppresses RBSDV through the blue‐light receptor ZmPHR2, which interacts with ZmISP in chloroplasts to trigger ROS burst and antiviral defense. The viral effector P6 enhances ZmPHR2–ZmISP interaction, alters their distribution, and suppresses ROS.

Determinants and Suitability of Carotenoid Reflection Score as a Measure of Carotenoid Status

open access: yes, 2020
Carotenoids, orange-coloured pigments found in vegetables, fruit, eggs and dairy foods, act as antioxidants and vitamin A precursors in the human body. Skin carotenoid concentration is a biomarker of vegetable and fruit intake.

Long-term strict raw food diet is associated with favourable plasma b-carotene and low plasma lycopene concentrations in Germans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Dietary carotenoids are associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases. Raw food diets are predominantly plant-based diets that are practised with the intention of preventing chronic diseases by virtue of their high content of beneficial nutritive ...

Noninvasive Reflection Spectroscopy Measurement of Skin Carotenoid Score in Infants Is Feasible and Reliable

open access: yes, 2022
Background: Skin carotenoid measurement by reflection spectroscopy (RS) offers a noninvasive biomarker of carotenoid intake, but feasibility, reliability, and validity are not established in infants.

Comparative Profiles of Lipophilic Nutrients and In Vitro Antioxidant Activity in Commercial Arabica and Robusta Green Coffee Beans

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
Integrated compositional profiling of ten commercial green coffee lots showed higher mean total phenolic content, DPPH radical‐scavenging activity, β‐carotene, and total phytosterols in Robusta‐labeled lots, whereas Arabica‐labeled lots showed higher mean total tocopherols and total measured fatty acids.

Association between dietary carotenoid intakes and abdominal aortic calcification in adults: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013–2014

open access: yesJournal of Health, Population and Nutrition
Objective Abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) is an important marker of subclinical atherosclerosis and a predictor of cardiovascular disease. This study aims to explore the association between carotenoid intakes and AAC.

Asymptotic optimality of the quasi-score estimator in a class of linear score estimators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We prove that the quasi-score estimator in a mean-variance model is optimal in the class of (unbiased) linear score estimators, in the sense that the difference of the asymptotic covariance matrices of the linear score and quasi-score estimator is ...

Enhancing Meat Quality Through Dietary Fiber: Insights Into the Gut Microbiota‐Derived Short‐Chain Fatty Acids‐Muscle Axis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary fiber (DF) modulates meat quality through the gut‐muscle axis by reshaping gut microbiota, improving intestinal integrity, reducing inflammation, and regulating muscle metabolism. These mechanisms influence muscle fiber characteristics and post‐mortem biochemistry, thereby enhancing tenderness, juiciness, color, flavor, and nutritional value of

Dietary astaxanthin levels affect colour, growth, carotenoid digestibility and the accumulation of specific carotenoid esters in the Giant Tiger Shrimp, Penaeus monodon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The carotenoid astaxanthin (Axn) plays a vital role in shrimp pigmentation, with direct influence on product quality, and forms a significant cost component of shrimp aquaculture feeds.
