GST‐IVTT pull‐down: a fast and versatile in vitro method for validating and mapping protein–protein interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2022
Over the past few decades, dozens of in vitro methods have been developed to map, investigate and validate protein–protein interactions. However, most of these approaches are time‐consuming and labour‐intensive or require specialised equipment or ...

Testing a Recombinant Form of Tetanus Toxoid as a Carrier Protein for Glycoconjugate Vaccines

open access: yesVaccines, 2023
Glycoconjugate vaccines play a major role in the prevention of infectious diseases worldwide, with significant impact on global health, enabling the polysaccharides to induce immunogenicity in infants and immunological memory.

Cytosolic‐enhanced dark Epac‐based FRET sensors allow for intracellular cAMP detection in live cells via FLIM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We describe a novel set of Epac‐based FRET‐FLIM biosensors with improved fully cytosolic distribution, achieved without compromising the state‐of‐the‐art performance of our original designs, for detecting cAMP dynamics in real time in live cells with high precision and reliability.

Protein insertion into the inner membrane of mitochondria: routes and mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio
The inner membrane of mitochondria contains hundreds of different integral membrane proteins. These proteins transport molecules into and out of the matrix, they carry out multifold catalytic reactions and they promote the biogenesis or degradation of ...

Biocompatibility of 2D Silicon Nitride: Interaction at the Nano-Bio interface [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Determining potential abilities of nanostructures to induce toxicity to biological molecules is still a convoluted challenge in the realm of nanomedicine. Based on the unprecedented achievements of twodimensional nanomaterials in nearly all areas of applied sciences particularly medicine, we carried out all-atom molecular dynamics simulations to assess

Biochemically altered human erythrocytes as a carrier for targeted delivery of primaquine: an in vitro study [PDF]

open access: yesArch. Pharm. Res. (2011) 34: 563, 2019
The aim of this study was to investigate human erythrocytes as a carrier for targeted drug delivery of primaquine (PQ). The process of PQ loading in human erythrocytes, as well as the effect of PQ loading on the oxidative status of erythrocytes, was also studied.

Diphthamide synthesis is linked to the eEF2‐client chaperone machinery

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The diphthamide modification of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2 (eEF2) is important for accurate protein synthesis. We addressed the potential coordination of de novo eEF2 synthesis with simultaneous or subsequent diphthamide modification. Our work reveals that the co‐chaperones Hgh1 and Cpr7, which are known to support folding of nascent ...

Remodeling of HDL by CETP in vivo and by CETP and hepatic lipase in vitro results in enhanced uptake of HDL CE by cells expressing scavenger receptor B-I

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1999
The transport of HDL cholesteryl esters (CE) from plasma to the liver involves a direct uptake pathway, mediated by hepatic scavenger receptor B-I (SR-BI), and an indirect pathway, involving the exchange of HDL CE for triglycerides (TG) of TG-rich ...

The [2Fe‐2S] cluster of mitochondrial outer membrane protein mitoNEET has an O2‐regulated nitric oxide access tunnel

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The mitochondrial outer membrane iron–sulphur ([Fe‐S]) protein mitoNEET is a target of the type‐2 diabetes drug pioglitazone. Its unknown molecular function is linked to respiratory complex activity and mitochondrial function. We discovered that O2 protects the mitoNEET [2Fe‐2S] cluster against NO oxidation and desensitization towards reduction by H2S.

Epididymosomes: transfer of fertility-modulating proteins to the sperm surface

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2015
A variety of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-linked proteins are acquired on spermatozoa from epididymal luminal fluids (ELF) during sperm maturation.
