Thienopyrimidine derivatives prevent cartilage destruction in articular disease

Il Farmaco, 2001
The effects of a series of thienopyrimidine derivatives on the prevention of cartilage destruction in articular disease were investigated. Anti-degenerative activity was assayed on culture of nasal pig cartilage in the presence or in the absence of interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta). The amount of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and the production of nitric oxide (

[Ochronosis or black cartilage disease].

Revue de chirurgie orthopedique et reparatrice de l'appareil moteur, 2009
We report two cases of ochronosis. This rare disease (1/1,000,000) transmitted by recessive autosomic inheritance results from an enzyme disorder. Clinically, the disease begins by black deposits in connective tissue followed by a group of symptoms, particularly involving the joints, and then destructive joint disease affecting the larger joints ...

Diagnosis of Bone and Cartilage Diseases

2012
The aim of this chapter is to review the application of vibrational spectroscopy and microspectroscopy, namely FTIR and Raman spectroscopy and microspectroscopy in the diagnosis of drug- or disease-induced bone and cartilage disorders. The first section gives an introduction on the structure and composition as well as diseases of bone and cartilage and

Cartilage proteoglycans in degenerative joint disease.

The Journal of rheumatology, 1987
Cartilage content of proteoglycans decreases early in induced degenerative hip joint disease. Remaining molecules show structural changes indicating fragmentation. Fragments lost from the articular cartilage are released to the synovial fluid, where they can be quantified by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay.

Biochemistry of articular cartilage in health and disease

Clinical Biochemistry, 1992
Articular cartilage covers the ends of long bones in synovial joints, providing smooth articulation and cushioning of the underlying bone during joint movement. The tissue can be viewed as a viscoelastic, composite material composed of collagen type II (and smaller amounts of other collagens) entrapping compressed (underhydrated) proteoglycan ...
