Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

An interactive gesture control system for collaborative manipulator based on Leap Motion Controller

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering
Gesture control is often used for the control of robotic manipulators. However conventional methods always focus on position control of robotic manipulators and use a fixed position to place gesture detection devices, which limits the flexibility to ...

Cascaded-cladding-pumped cascaded Raman fiber amplifier

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
The conversion efficiency of double-clad Raman fiber laser is limited by the cladding-to-core area ratio. To get high conversion efficiency, the inner-cladding-to-core area ratio has to be less than about 8, which limits the brightness enhancement. To overcome the problem, a cascaded-cladding-pumped cascaded Raman fiber laser with multiple-clad fiber ...

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Cascade [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cascade is a static program analysis tool developed at New York University. It uses bounded model checking to generate verification conditions and checks them using an SMT solver which either produces a proof of correctness or gives a concrete trace showing how an assertion can fail.

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Collisional deexcitation of exotic hydrogen atoms in highly excited states. II. Cascade calculations

open access: yes, 2002
The atomic cascades in mu-p and pbar-p atoms have been studied in detail using new results for the cross-sections of the scattering of highly excited exotic atoms from molecular hydrogen. The cascade calculations have been done with an updated version of

Quantum Zeno-like effect and spectra of particles in cascade transition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Shr\"odinger equation for two-step spontaneous cascade transition in a three-level quantum system is solved by means of Markovian approximation for non-Markovian integro-differential evolution equations for amplitudes of states.

Cascade-based attacks on complex networks. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical review. E, Statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics, 2002
We live in a modern world supported by large, complex networks. Examples range from financial markets to communication and transportation systems. In many realistic situations the flow of physical quantities in the network, as characterized by the loads ...

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.
