Specificity determinants of maize casein kinase-IIB are related to but distinct from those of rat liver casein kinase-2

Biochimica Et Biophysica Acta - Molecular Cell Research, 1989
The site specificity of maize seedling casein kinase-IIB, a type-2 casein kinase exhibiting an unusually low Mr, has been studied with the aid of model acidic peptide substrates for rat liver casein kinase-2. Like the animal enzyme, casein kinase-IIB also readily phosphorylates peptides SEEEEE, SEAEEE and SEEEAE, but not SEEAEE.

Casein kinase 2 activity increases in the prereplicative phase of liver regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1988
Cytosolic casein kinase activity increased up to 2-fold in the first 6 h after partial hepatectomy and then decreased to control values. This increase was due mainly to casein kinase 2, which reached maximal values at 6–8 h of liver regeneration.

Casein Kinase 2 Binds to and Phosphorylates BRCA1

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1999
The BRCA1 gene encodes a complex protein that appears to be involved in some aspects of DNA repair, transcription, or cell cycle regulation. The phosphorylation of BRCA1 is enhanced following episodes of DNA damage or during cell cycle progression, indicating that phosphorylation may be an important regulatory mechanism.

Breaking in a New Function for Casein Kinase 2

Science of Aging Knowledge Environment, 2004
DNA damage response mechanisms help ensure the fidelity of chromosomal transmission, and the failure of such mechanisms might lead to premature aging and cancer. A new report has established that casein kinase 2 (CK2), a protein that functions in diverse cellular processes, controls the activity of the DNA repair protein XRCC1.

Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Casein Kinase 2

Science Signaling, 2003
Protein casein kinase 2 (CK2), a multifunctional enzyme commonly considered a stable tetramer with two catalytic α subunits and two regulatory β subunits, has substrates in various cellular compartments. Filhol et al. used live-cell fluorescence imaging to track the subcellular localization of CK2 subunit mutants ...

Casein kinase-2 and cell signaling

1995
Casein kinase-2 (CK2) is a ubiquitous Ser/Thr-specific protein kinase supposed to play a relevant, albeit enigmatic, role in cellular regulation. In this review the arguments supporting the implication of CK2 in signal transduction will be summarized and the elusive mode of regulation of this pleiotropic enzyme will be discussed.

Expression of Casein Kinase 2 during Mouse Embryogenesis

Cells Tissues Organs, 1994
This paper deals with the expression and distribution of casein kinase 2 (CK-2) subunits in mouse embryos at different developmental stages. Expression was investigated at the mRNA level of CK-2 α- and β-subunits by in situ hybridization and distribution at the protein level by immunohistochemistry using CK-2-α and CK-2-β-specific antibodies ...

Interaction of phospholipase D1 with a casein-kinase-2-like serine kinase

Biochemical Journal, 2001
Phospholipase D (PLD)1 was phosphorylated invivo and by an associated kinase invitro following immunoprecipitation. Both phosphorylation events were greatly reduced in a catalytically inactive point mutant in which the serine residue at position 911 was converted into alanine (S911A).

Toward the rational design of protein kinase casein kinase-2 inhibitors

Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2002
Casein kinase-2 (CK2) probably is the most pleiotropic member of the protein kinase family, with more than 200 substrates known to date. Unlike the great majority of protein kinases, which are tightly regulated enzymes, CK2 is endowed with high constitutive activity, a feature that is suspected to underlie its oncogenic potential and possible ...
