Density-based modeling and identification of biochemical networks in cell populations [PDF]
In many biological processes heterogeneity within cell populations is an important issue. In this work we consider populations where the behavior of every single cell can be described by a system of ordinary differential equations. Heterogeneity among individual cells is accounted for by differences in parameter values and initial conditions.

Caspase-9 mediates Puma activation in UCN-01-induced apoptosis
The protein kinase inhibitor 7-hydroxystaurosporine (UCN-01) is one of the most potent and frequently used proapoptotic stimuli. The BH3-only molecule of Bcl-2 family proteins has been reported to contribute to UCN-01-induced apoptosis.

Sepsis is a syndrome with hyperactivity of TH17-like innate immunity and hypoactivity of adaptive immunity [PDF]
Currently, there are two major theories for the pathogenesis of sepsis: hyperimmune and hypoimmune. Hyperimmune theory suggests that cytokine storm causes the symptoms of sepsis. On the contrary, hypoimmune theory suggests that immunosuppression causes the manifestations of sepsis.

This proof‐of‐concept study involves high‐throughput teratogenicity screening of compounds using XEn/EpiCs, a 3D stem cell‐based embryo model, within microwells. The term ‘morphotoxicity’ is introduced to complement traditional cytotoxicity assays through automated feature extraction and machine‐learning‐assisted classification of morphologies.

A flexible electrode loaded with a carbon nanowire network (CC@C‐NWN) is developed for electrochemically generating reactive chlorine species (RCS) from abundant chloride ions in body fluids for tumor therapy. CC@C‐NWN enhances chlorine evolution, inducing redox dysregulation and synergistic apoptosis‐ferroptosis in tumor cells.
