hnRNP U Enhances Caspase-9 Splicing and Is Modulated by AKT-dependent Phosphorylation of hnRNP L*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2013
Background: Two splice variants of caspase-9 can be generated by the inclusion/exclusion of the exon 3,4,5,6 cassette. Results: hnRNP U is an enhancer of this exonic cassette and is opposed by phosphorylation of hnRNP L via the AKT pathway.

Investigating the Potential for Label‐Free Detection of Cell Apoptosis through Terahertz Nano‐Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a label‐free optical method to monitor cells using a terahertz metasurface‐based biosensing platform. The obtained terahertz signal change for the cell‐contained nanoslots before and after external stimulus is analyzed in terms of transmittance and frequency shift, dynamically representing the cell apoptosis process.

dup -- Explicit un-sharing in Haskell [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
We propose two operations to prevent sharing in Haskell that do not require modifying the data generating code, demonstrate their use and usefulness, and compare them to other approaches to preventing sharing. Our claims are supported by a formal semantics and a prototype implementation.

HARMLESS Early Warning System for Advanced Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
The HARMLESS Early Warning System tackles Advanced Materials (AdMa) risk governance by providing a framework, organised in two tiers, underpinned with methods/tools to support risk assessors in the pre‐assessment preceding risk assessment. It allows for initial screening to identify AdMa with concerns considering exposure, hazards, sustainability and ...

Dysregulated Apoptosis Through the Intrinsic Pathway in the Internal Spermatic Vein of Patients With Varicocele

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2009
Apoptosis plays a critical role in various physiological processes. Varicocele is the most common cause of male infertility in adults. The dilated and thickened wall of the internal spermatic vein (ISV) in varicocele is considered similar to that in ...
