Data in the activities of caspases and the levels of reactive oxygen species and cytochrome c in the •OH-induced fish erythrocytes treated with alanine, citrulline, proline and their combination

open access: yesData in Brief, 2016
The present study explored the effects of alanine (Ala), citrulline (Cit), proline (Pro) and their combination (Ala10Pro4Cit1) on the activities of caspases and levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cytochrome c in hydroxyl radicals (•OH)-induced ...

Novel insights into the synergistic interaction of Bortezomib and TRAIL: tBid provides the link [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The proteasome inhibitor Bortezomib has been identified as a potent enhancer of TRAIL-induced apoptosis in several human cancers. However, the identification of the underlying molecular mechanisms of this synergistic cell death induction has been ongoing

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

RGDS peptide induces caspase 8 and caspase 9 activation in human endothelial cells

open access: yesBlood, 2004
AbstractPeptides containing the Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) motif inhibit cell adhesion and exhibit a variety of other biologic effects including anticoagulant and antimetastatic activities. The aim of the present study was to examine the anchorage-independent effects of an RGD-containing peptide, Arg-Gly-Asp-Ser (RGDS), on human umbilical vein endothelial cells

SRp30a (ASF/SF2) regulates the alternative splicing of caspase-9 pre-mRNA and is required for ceramide-responsiveness

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
Two splice variants are derived from the caspase-9 gene, proapoptotic caspase-9a and antiapoptotic caspase-9b, by either the inclusion or exclusion of an exon 3, 4, 5, and 6 cassette.

Ventricular androgenic-anabolic steroid-related remodeling: an immunohistochemical study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Several fatal cases of bodybuilders, following a myocardial infarction after long exposure to androgenicanabolic steroids (AAS), are reported. In recent years, evidence has emerged of cases of heart failure related to AAS consumption, with no

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

Triptolide inhibits Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 1 expression by increasing sensitivity of mitochondria apoptosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2018
Background Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is widely found in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) tissue and associated with poor prognosis of patients. EBV nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1) is expressed in all NPC tumors and plays multiple biological roles in both virus ...
