Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Effect of SO2 on the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx over V2O5-CeO2/TiO2-ZrO2 Catalysts

open access: yes, 2019
The effect of SO2 on the selective catalytic reduction of NOx by NH3 over V2O5-0.2CeO2/TiO2-ZrO2 catalysts was studied through catalytic activity tests and various characterization methods, like Brunner−Emmet−Teller (BET) surface measurement,

In Search of the Active Sites for the Selective Catalytic Reduction on Tungsten-Doped Vanadia Monolayer Catalysts supported by TiO2

open access: yes, 2021
Tungsten-doped vanadia-based catalysts supported on anatase TiO2 are used to reduce hazardous NO emissions through the selective catalytic reduction of ammonia, but their exact atomistic structure is still largely unknown.

Quantum Reality in the Selective Reduction of a Benzofuran System

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Two 2,3-disubstituted benzofurans (1 and 2), analogs of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), were synthesized to obtain their 2,3-dihydro derivatives from the Pd/C-driven catalytic reduction of the double bond in the furanoid ring.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

A First-Principles Calculation Study of the Catalytic Properties of Two-Dimensional Bismuthene Materials for Carbon Dioxide Reduction

open access: yes
The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) at room temperature into industrial chemicals and energy products offers a promising strategy to mitigate atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions. In this study, bismuthene was employed as a catalyst for

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
