Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Phosphorylation of β-Catenin by AKT Promotes β-Catenin Transcriptional Activity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2007
Increased transcriptional activity of beta-catenin resulting from Wnt/Wingless-dependent or -independent signaling has been detected in many types of human cancer, but the underlying mechanism of Wnt-independent regulation is poorly understood. We have demonstrated that AKT, which is activated downstream from epidermal growth factor receptor signaling,

Dissecting the dynamics of signaling events in the BMP, WNT, and NODAL cascade during self-organized fate patterning in human gastruloids. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
During gastrulation, the pluripotent epiblast self-organizes into the 3 germ layers-endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm, which eventually form the entire embryo.

Therapeutic potential of targeting the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in colorectal cancer.

open access: yesBiomedicine & pharmacotherapy = Biomedecine & pharmacotherapie, 2019
Aberrant Wnt/β-catenin signaling has often been reported in different cancers, particularly colorectal cancer (CRC), and this signaling cascade is central to carcinogenesis.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Nuclear p120 catenin is a component of the perichromosomal layer and coordinates sister chromatid segregation during mitosis in lung cancer cells

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2022
Abnormal expression of p120 catenin is associated with the malignant phenotype in human lung cancer. Numerous studies have focused on the function of p120 catenin in the juxta-membrane compartment.

α-Catenin overrides Src-dependent activation of β-catenin oncogenic signaling [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Cancer Therapeutics, 2008
Abstract Loss of α-catenin is one of the characteristics of prostate cancer. The catenins (α and β) associated with E-cadherin play a critical role in the regulation of cell-cell adhesion. Tyrosine phosphorylation of β-catenin dissociates it from E-cadherin and facilitates its entry into the nucleus, where β-catenin acts as a ...

Wnt/beta-catenin pathway: modulating anticancer immune response

open access: yesJournal of Hematology & Oncology, 2017
Wnt/β-catenin signaling, a highly conserved pathway through evolution, regulates key cellular functions including proliferation, differentiation, migration, genetic stability, apoptosis, and stem cell renewal.

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

β-Catenin regulates endocardial cushion growth by suppressing p21

open access: yesLife Science Alliance, 2023
This work demonstrates that β-catenin–mediated suppression of p21 is essential for endocardial cushion formation, suggesting a potential role of β-catenin in the etiology of congenital heart defects.
