Synthesis of fluorinated catharanthine analogues and investigation of their biomimetic coupling with vindoline

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2013
The syntheses of 20,20-difluorocatharanthine and congeners, starting from the naturally occurring catharanthine, are reported. The fluorinated catharanthine analogues were investigated as potential precursors to dimeric Vinca alkaloids of the vinflunine family. However, the biomimetic coupling of the fluorinated catharanthine derivatives with vindoline

Rearrangement of catharanthine, stemmadenine, and tabersonine in acetic acid

Journal of the Chemical Society D: Chemical Communications, 1969
Treatment of tabersonine with refluxing acetic acid under nitrogen yielded a new base, allocatharanthine (VI), and the derived (VII), but failed to produce detectable quantities of (±)-catharanthine or pseudocatharanthine, nor did similar treatment of stemmadenine afford any of these compounds.

Vindoline and catharanthine production in multiple shoot cultures of Catharanthus roseus

Journal of Fermentation and Bioengineering, 1990
Abstract The effects of phytohormones and light on alkaloid production were investigated using multiple shoot cultures of Catharanthus roseus . A high and balanced level of vindoline and catharanthine, 765 and 552 μg, respectively, useful materials for chemical or enzymatic synthesis of antineoplastic bisindole alkaloids, was obtained per gram of ...

Studies on the mechanism of quaternization of the catharanthine part of vinblastine and vincristine

Tetrahedron Letters, 2016
Abstract A quaternization reaction was observed at the tertiary nitrogen atom of the catharanthine part of vinblastine instead of the expected cyclopropanation in the Simmons–Smith reaction utilizing diiodomethane and diethylzinc. Investigating the energetic relations, thermodynamic stabilities and the interactions between the molecular orbitals by ...

The Coupling of Catharanthine and Vindoline to Form 3′,4′-Anhydrovinblastine by Haemoproteins and Haemin

Planta Medica, 1988
The enzymic coupling of catharanthine and vindoline can be performed with plant peroxidases in a reaction which yields 3',4'-anhydrovinblastine (AVLB) as the major product. This has led to an investigation of other sources of peroxidase activity and haem. High levels of AVLB were obtained using microperoxidase (haem-undecapeptide) and haemin, and lower

Anodic Fragmentation of Catharanthine and Coupling with Vindoline. Formation of Anhydrovinblastine

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 1997
The anodic oxidation of catharanthine (Cath) in the presence of vindoline (Vind) performed in MeCN−Et4NClO4 at a controlled potential yields (16‘S)- and (16‘R)-anhydrovinblastine (AVBL) in s 4.3:1 ratio. The favorable stereoselectivity found at room temperature is rationalized by proposing the coupling of generated dication 1a++ and Vind at the ...

Ajmalicine, Serpentine, and Catharanthine Accumulation inCatharanthus roseusBioreactor Cultures

Planta Medica, 1987
A 141, stirred-tank bioreactor was used to investigate the effect of 7% glucose solutions on CATHARANTHUS ROSEUS suspension cultures. Measurement of oxygen uptake rate indicated that alkaloid accumulation occurred primarily during a 20-day transition period between growth-oriented metabolism and maintenance-oriented metabolism. Exposure of the cells to
