Somatic embryogenesis and indole alkaloid production in Catharanthus roseus
Plant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology, 2000ABSTRACT A new protocol to obtain an embryogenic cell line from cultured seedling explants of Catharanthus roseus is described. In order to assess the relationship between tissue differentiation and secondary metabolite biosynthesis, the biosynthetic capabilities (alkaloid production) of an embryogenic cell line and two non-embryogenic C.

The genuine localization of indole alkaloids in Vinca minor and Catharanthus roseus
Phytochemistry, 2019Based on the occurrence of indole alkaloids in so-called "chloroform leaf surface extracts", it was previously deduced that these alkaloids are present in the cuticle at the leaf surface of Catharanthus roseus and Vinca minor. As no symplastic markers were found in these extracts this deduction seemed to be sound.

Alkaloid Production in Root and Shoot Cultures ofCatharanthus roseus
Planta Medica, 1987Root and shoot cultures were induced from seedlings of CATHARANTHUS ROSEUS. Root cultures and cell suspension cultures derived from the root cultures showed similar alkaloid spectra to the roots of intact plants. The alkaloid spectra of shoot cultures and the aerial parts of intact plants were similar to each other but different from those of root and ...

Production of Alkaloids with Immobilized Cells of Catharanthus Roseus
1982The use of immobilized cells in reactor systems could simplify and increase the efficiency of producing secondary metabolites such as steroids, alkaloids, flavors and growth control compounds from plant cells and complex proteins from animal cells.

Directed Biosynthesis of Alkaloid Analogs in the Medicinal Plant Catharanthus roseus
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2006Terpene indole alkaloids are plant natural products with diverse structures and biological activities. A highly branched biosynthetic pathway is responsible for the production of approximately 130 different alkaloids in Madagascar periwinkle (C. roseus) from a common biosynthetic intermediate derived from tryptamine.

Transport of Monoterpenoid Indole Alkaloids in Catharanthus roseus
2014Alkaloids are a large and diverse group of natural compounds that are related by the occurrence of a nitrogen atom within a heterocyclic backbone. Due to their strong and divergent biological activities, some of them are applied for clinical uses. Alkaloids are often highly accumulated in particular sites in plants and are often translocated from ...

Elicitors Enhance Alkaloid Yield in Catharanthus roseus
2017Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don is an important plant of medicinal importance. A number of active compounds of this plant are anti-cancerous in nature. Two such compounds are vinblastine and vincristine; unfortunately, the level of these phytocompounds is very low.

Effect of a tertiary amine on alkaloid accumulation in Catharanthus roseus
Phytochemistry, 1997Abstract The Madagascar periwinkle, Catharanthus roseus , produces numerous indole alkaloids, several of which have important therapeutic activities. These secondary metabolites are among the most expensive drugs because of their low abundance in intact plants. We investigated the biotransformation of a synthetic product ( N -(methoxycarbonylethyl)-

Cathagines A–D, new bisindole alkaloids from Catharanthus roseus
Journal of Natural MedicinesFour new bisindole alkaloids, cathagines A (1)-D (4) consisting of an aspidosperma and the fused tetracyclic 3-spirooxindole derived from an iboga type skeleton were isolated from the whole plant of Catharanthus roseus. The structures including absolute stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of 2D NMR data and CD spectra.
