Alkaloid Secondary Products from Catharanthus roseus Cell Suspension

2003
Plant cell culture, the growth of plant cells on solid medium or in liquid, was originally used to study the physiology and biochemistry of plants without the complication of the whole plant. However, it was soon found that plant cell cultures were often capable of producing compounds characteristic of the original plant.

Cathagines A–D, new bisindole alkaloids from Catharanthus roseus

Journal of Natural Medicines
Four new bisindole alkaloids, cathagines A (1)-D (4) consisting of an aspidosperma and the fused tetracyclic 3-spirooxindole derived from an iboga type skeleton were isolated from the whole plant of Catharanthus roseus. The structures including absolute stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of 2D NMR data and CD spectra.

Somatic embryogenesis and indole alkaloid production inCatharanthus roseus

Plant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology, 2000
ABSTRACT A new protocol to obtain an embryogenic cell line from cultured seedling explants of Catharanthus roseus is described. In order to assess the relationship between tissue differentiation and secondary metabolite biosynthesis, the biosynthetic capabilities (alkaloid production) of an embryogenic cell line and two non-embryogenic C.

Transport of Monoterpenoid Indole Alkaloids in Catharanthus roseus

2014
Alkaloids are a large and diverse group of natural compounds that are related by the occurrence of a nitrogen atom within a heterocyclic backbone. Due to their strong and divergent biological activities, some of them are applied for clinical uses. Alkaloids are often highly accumulated in particular sites in plants and are often translocated from ...

Catharanthus roseus alkaloids: application of biotechnology for improving yield

Plant Growth Regulation, 2012
Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don. is a well known medicinal plant. It produces several phyto-compounds many of which show anticancerous properties. The yields of these compounds are however, very low. In this present article, the current development of secondary metabolite synthesis in C.

A Catharanthus Roseus Salt Tolerant Line II. Alkaloid Production

Journal of Plant Physiology, 1994
Summary A Catharanthus roseus salt-tolerant line was isolated. Analysis of its alkaloid pattern showed a higher accumulation of ajmalicine, catharanthine, vincamine and yohimbine than in the original culture. The maximum yield (on a volume basis) increases for the last three alkaloids were 1.5, 2, and 1.7-fold, respectively.

Indole Alkaloid Production in Catharanthus roseus Cell Suspension Cultures

1989
Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don, Madagascan periwinkle, is a well-known medicinal herb on which a lot of research has been done, especially on isolation and conversion of its alkaloids. To date more than 100 indole alkaloids have been isolated from the different parts of the plant, many of them with important pharmacological activity (1–3).
