Association between cathepsins and benign prostate diseases: a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
ObjectivesThe relationship between cathepsins and prostate cancer (PCa) has been reported. However, there is a lack of research on cathepsins and benign prostate diseases (BPDs).

Cathepsins in oral diseases

open access: yesJournal of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, 2019
Cathepsins are a class of globular lysosomal proteases known to be responsible for protein degradation. In addition to proteolysis they have many biological roles such as apoptosis wound healing angiogenesis, proenzymatic activation, bone remodelling and

Engineering the S2 subsite specificity of human cathepsin S to a cathepsin L- and cathepsin B-like specificity.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1994
The primary specificity of papain-like proteinases is largely determined by S2-P2 site interactions. According to the three-dimensional structure of a papain-inhibitor complex, the S2 subsite is defined by residues 67, 68, 133, 157, 160, and 205, with residues 133, 157, and 205 integrated into the wall and bottom of the side chain binding cavity.

Cysteine cathepsins as regulators of the cytotoxicity of NK and T cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
Cysteine cathepsins are lysosomal peptidases involved at different levels in the processes of the innate and adaptive immune responses. Some, such as cathepsins B, L and H are expressed constitutively in most immune cells.

Characterization of cathepsins in cartilage [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1967
The presence of a cathepsin B-like enzyme in rabbit ear cartilage was established by the use of the synthetic substrates benzoyl-l-arginine amide and benzoyl-dl-arginine 2-naphthylamide. This was facilitated by using a technique that permits the incubation of a fixed weight of thin (18μ) cartilage sections with an appropriate exogenous substrate.

Human cathepsin H [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1980
Cathepsin H was purified from human liver by a method involving autolysis and acetone fractionation, and chromatography on DEAE-cellulose, Ultrogel AcA 54, hydroxyapatite and concanavalin A-Sepharose. The procedure allowed for the simultaneous isolation of cathepsin B and cathepsin D. Cathepsin H was shown to consist of a single polypeptide chain of 28

Comparative Analysis of Click Chemistry Mediated Activity-Based Protein Profiling in Cell Lysates

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
Activity-based protein profiling uses chemical probes that covalently attach to active enzyme targets. Probes with conventional tags have disadvantages, such as limited cell permeability or steric hindrance around the reactive group.

HIV-1 envelope resistance to proteasomal cleavage: implications for vaccine induced immune responses. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Antigen processing involves many proteolytic enzymes such as proteasomes and cathepsins. The processed antigen is then presented on the cell surface bound to either MHC class I or class II molecules and induces/interacts with antigen-specific CD8+ and ...

Lysosomal cathepsins act in concert with Gasdermin-D during NAIP/NLRC4-dependent IL-1β secretion

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2022
The NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasome is classically associated with the detection of bacterial invasion to the cytosol. However, recent studies have demonstrated that NAIP/NLRC4 is also activated in non-bacterial infections, and in sterile inflammation. Moreover,

Control of active B and L cathepsins in tissues of colorectal cancer using cystatins isolated from chicken egg proteins: in vitro studies

open access: yesFolia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, 2012
The activity of cysteine peptidases (cathepsins B and L) was estimated in homogenates of tissues sampled during surgery from 60 patients operated due to colorectal tumors.
