Recreational Drug Use at a Music Festival: A Dual Approach Using Hair Biomarkers Analysis and Participant Self‐Reported Drug Use

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Combined self‐report and hair analysis in festival attendees (n = 249) revealed substantial discrepancies in drug use reporting, particularly for stimulants and dissociatives. This integrated approach enhances detection of poly‐drug use and provides a more reliable basis for monitoring and harm‐reduction strategies.

Microcrystalline testing used in combination with Raman micro-spectroscopy for absolute identification of novel psychoactive substances [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Two new psychoactive substances, namely 4-methylmethcathinone (mephedrone) and 5,6-methylenedioxy-2-aminoindane (MDAI) were analysed with a novel combination of microcrystalline tests followed by Raman micro-spectroscopy to facilitate their absolute ...

In vitro and in vivo metabolism profiles of cathinone and pseudoephedrine: Discrimination between khat and pseudoephedrine uses

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract In the present study, the metabolism of khat (Catha edulis) and pseudoephedrine was compared with the aim of identifying objective criteria that could be used to discriminate between them for forensic and doping‐control purposes. An in vitro study using human liver microsomes and an in vivo study using rat urine were performed under harmonized

Insights from a 6‐year hair drug analysis compendium in drug‐facilitated sexual assault cases

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Drug‐facilitated sexual assault (DFSA) may involve a diverse array of substances, including illicit drugs, prescription medications, and over‐the‐counter pharmaceuticals. Hair analysis has emerged as a valuable forensic tool, offering an extended window of detection spanning several months. However, interpreting drug concentrations in hair can

Molecular docking study of binding modes of amphetamine, cathine, and cathinone to monoamine oxidase B

open access: yesAl-Azhar Assiut Medical Journal, 2019
Background Molecular docking is commonly used in the study of small-molecule–protein interaction. Amphetamine (AMPH), cathine (CATHI), and cathinone (CATHO) bind in silico with monoamine oxidase B (MAO B) with relatively low affinity.
