Dissecting the Molecular Mechanism of Nucleotide-Dependent Activation of the KtrAB K+ Transporter.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2016
KtrAB belongs to the Trk/Ktr/HKT superfamily of monovalent cation (K+ and Na+) transport proteins that closely resemble K+ channels. These proteins underlie a plethora of cellular functions that are crucial for environmental adaptation in plants, fungi ...

Effect of Gestational Age on mRNA and Protein Expression of Polyspecific Organic Cation Transporters during Pregnancy [PDF]

open access: yesDrug Metabolism and Disposition, 2013
Polyspecific organic cation (OC) transporters play important roles in the disposition of clinically used drugs, including drugs used during pregnancy. Pregnancy is known to alter the expression of drug-metabolizing enzymes and transporters, but its specific effect on OC transporters has not been well defined.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Rabaptin5 is recruited to endosomes by Rab4a and Rabex5 to regulate endosome maturation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Membrane trafficking between organelles is fundamental to the existence of eukaryotic cells. A multitude of proteins is involved in membrane trafficking, acting as building blocks for transport carriers, regulators of transport, and targeting and fusion ...

Liquid biopsy‐based diagnostic evaluation of hypermethylated CpG sites for ovarian cancer diagnosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This schematic outlines the workflow from biomarker identification to duplex MethyLight assay validation for epithelial ovarian cancer diagnosis using cfDNA‐based liquid biopsy. Initial screening of hypermethylated CpG candidates (cg02957270, cg10061138 cg00480298, COL2A1) was performed in tissue using ARMS‐PCR, COBRA, qPCR and image analysis. Selected

Peptide transport in Candida albicans and synthetic antifungal agents [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
These studies have characterized the peptide transport systems of Candida albicans, with a view to the rational design of peptide antifungal agents exploiting the 'smugglin' concept.

Molecular and evolutionary insights into the structural organization of cation chloride cotransporters

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2015
Cation chloride cotransporters (CCC) play an essential role for neuronal chloride homeostasis. KCC2 is the principal Cl--extruder, whereas NKCC1 is the major Cl--uptake mechanism in many neurons.

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

An investigation using cultured human cell lines, of the involvement of vanadium, cation transport and phosphatidylinositol in the aetiology of bipolar manic-depressive psychosis

open access: yes, 2015
The symptoms, classification, occurrence and possible aetiologies of bipolar manic-depressive psychosis have been reviewed, with particular emphasis on the possible role of the vanadate ion (V5+) and cation transport in the illness.
