Biogenesis of Caveolae: Stepwise Assembly of Large Caveolin and Cavin Complexes [PDF]

open access: yesTraffic, 2010
We analyzed the assembly of caveolae in CV1 cells by following the fate of newly synthesized caveolin-1 (CAV1), caveolin-2 and polymerase I and transcript release factor (PTRF)/cavin-1 biochemically and using live-cell imaging. Immediately after synthesis in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), CAV1 assembled into 8S complexes that concentrated in ER exit ...

Description of large, well‐preserved Enchodus specimens from the Bearpaw Formation of Alberta, Canada

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Fishes of the genus Enchodus were abundant and cosmopolitan in the Late Cretaceous, but are primarily known from isolated remains in Canada. Four well‐preserved fish skulls were recovered in recent years from ammolite mines sampling the Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta, and are here referred to Enchodus petrosus Cope, 1874.

Caveolae and Lipid Rafts in Endothelium: Valuable Organelles for Multiple Functions

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2020
Caveolae are flask-shaped invaginations of the plasma membrane found in numerous cell types and are particularly abundant in endothelial cells and adipocytes.

Updated COVID‐19 Vaccines and Health Outcomes in Patients With Autoimmune Rheumatic Conditions

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to assess the association between COVID‐19 vaccination status and COVID‐19‐related hospital admissions, need for mechanical ventilation or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and death in people with autoimmune rheumatic conditions. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study using National Clinical Cohort Collaborative

212 Suppressor of cytokine signalling 3 (socs3) interaction with cavin-1 links socs3 function and cavin-1 stability [PDF]

open access: yesHeart, 2017
Caveolae are lipid raft microdomains essential for the compartmentalisation and regulation of several signalling pathways e.g. JAK/STAT signalling. Disruption of caveolae is a significant factor in multiple disorders including muscular dystrophy, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

Extracellular Vesicles‐Based Biological Macromolecule Delivery Systems: Biogenesis, Characterization, and Emerging Clinical Applications

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nanoscale membrane‐bound structures that play a pivotal role in intercellular communication by transporting bioactive molecules, including proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and organelles, between cells. Originating from the endosomal pathway, EVs reflect the physiological and pathological status of their parent

Structural Insights into the Organization of the Cavin Membrane Coat Complex

open access: yesDevelopmental Cell, 2014
Caveolae are cell-surface membrane invaginations that play critical roles in cellular processes including signaling and membrane homeostasis. The cavin proteins, in cooperation with caveolins, are essential for caveola formation. Here we show that a minimal N-terminal domain of the cavins, termed HR1, is required and sufficient for their homo- and ...

Prognostic and diagnostic significance of Cavin 2 in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesArchives of Medical Science, 2020
Cavin 2 down-regulation is reported in several malignant tumors and is associated with tumor progression. However, the role of Cavin 2 in lung adenocarcinoma is unknown. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic and diagnostic significance of Cavin 2 in lung adenocarcinoma.Cavin 2 expression levels were examined in 150 cases of lung adenocarcinoma

Single-molecule analysis reveals self assembly and nanoscale segregation of two distinct cavin subcomplexes on caveolae

open access: yeseLife, 2014
In mammalian cells three closely related cavin proteins cooperate with the scaffolding protein caveolin to form membrane invaginations known as caveolae.

Caveolin‐1 enriched apoptotic bodies derived from oral hard palate orchestrate bone remodeling to treat heterotopic ossification

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Downregulated CAV1 in HO is restored via apoptotic bodies from PMSCs, which reprogram bone remodeling by delivering CAV1 to target cells, highlighting the therapeutic role of EV subtypes in heterotopic ossification. Abstract Heterotopic ossification (HO) is a pathological process characterized by ectopic bone formation in non‐osseous tissues, with an ...
