Inflammation and mechanical force‐induced bone remodeling

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis arises from imbalanced host–microbe interactions, leading to dysbiosis and destructive inflammation. The host's innate and adaptive immune responses produce pro‐inflammatory mediators that stimulate destructive events, which cause loss of alveolar bone and connective tissue attachment.

CCL5 neutralization restricts cancer growth and potentiates the targeting of PDGFRβ in colorectal carcinoma.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Increased CCL5 levels are markers of an unfavourable outcome in patients with melanoma, breast, cervical, prostate, gastric or pancreatic cancer. Here, we have assessed the role played by CCL5/CCR5 interactions in the development of colon cancer.

Cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity across solid and haematological malignancies: Lessons from colorectal cancer and multiple myeloma

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend CAF origins and plasticity give rise to distinct phenotypes with immunosuppressive functions in colorectal cancer and multiple myeloma. These distinct CAF phenotypes contribute to immunosuppressive tumour microenvironments through ECM remodelling, cytokine signalling and immune regulation.

α-Synuclein triggers cofilin pathology and dendritic spine impairment via a PrPC-CCR5 dependent pathway

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Cognitive dysfunction and dementia are critical symptoms of Lewy Body dementias (LBD). Specifically, alpha-synuclein (αSyn) accumulation in the hippocampus leading to synaptic dysfunction is linked to cognitive deficits in LBD.

CCL5 and GLUT1 define leader cells in collective invasion of colorectal cancer

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, Volume 270, Issue 3, Page 288-302, November 2026.
Abstract Invasion and metastasis in multiple solid tumors are promoted by collective invasion which is organized by leader and follower cells. Yet in colorectal cancer (CRC), biomarkers and mechanisms that specify leader cells remain undefined. Here we identify biomarkers of leader cells and elucidate how they drive CRC collective invasion and ...

Tumor‐Regional Immune Microenvironment: A Critical Factor in the Design of Radiotherapy–Immunotherapy Combination Trials

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 8, Page 1857-1872, 15 October 2026.
ABSTRACT Clinical trials combining radiotherapy (RT) with immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) have shown improved outcomes in only a fraction of patients, and optimal strategies for integrating these modalities remain under intense investigation. With a few exceptions, phase III combination trials have yielded disappointing results.

Hyperacute Interleukin‐1β Production and Neutrophil Extracellular Trap Formation in the Cerebral Circulation of Stroke Patients with Large Vessel Occlusion

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 100, Issue 4, Page 824-840, October 2026.
Acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion is associated with rapid intravascular immune activation. Analysis of arterial blood sampled distal to the thrombus during mechanical thrombectomy revealed increased extracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β) levels, evidence of inflammasome priming in monocytes, and ...

CCR5 Antagonism in HIV Infection: Current Concepts and Future Opportunities

open access: yes, 2012
CCR5 antagonists inhibit HIV-1 entry by blocking the interaction of HIV-1 with the CCR5 cellular receptor. In patients with established HIV-1 infection, some viral strains use an alternative coreceptor for HIV-1 entry, CXCR4; CCR5 antagonists are not ...

Synergistic Cytotoxicity of Cafestol and Kahweol With Doxorubicin in Breast Cancer Cells Involves TNF‑α Targeting and NF‑κB Downregulation

open access: yesArchiv der Pharmazie, Volume 359, Issue 10, October 2026.
Cafestol and kahweol (C&K) are cytotoxic to breast cancer cells and have a synergistic effect with doxorubicin. C&K interact with TNF‐α and downregulate the TNF‐α/NF‐κB pathway, underscoring their therapeutic potential for breast cancer. NIAID Visual & Medical Arts. Generic Cells.
