Investigation of the First African Swine Fever Outbreak in a Domestic Pig Farm in Hong Kong

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
In this study, we describe the epidemiological investigation of the first African swine fever (ASF) outbreak in a local domestic pig farm in the New Territories of Hong Kong in 2021. In the outbreak farm, several affected pigs presented clinical and pathological signs consistent with ASF, while the remaining pigs showed nonspecific clinical signs or ...

Detection of African Swine Fever Virus Genotype II in West Africa (2020) and Its Co-Circulation With Endemic Genotype I: Implications for Pig Production. [PDF]

open access: yesTransbound Emerg Dis
African swine fever (ASF) is a highly devastating disease of domestic pigs caused by the ASF virus (ASFV). Historically, only ASFV Genotype I was known to circulate in West Africa. However, Genotype II has recently emerged in Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin for the first time. Between 2017 and 2023, suspected ASF outbreaks were reported in Burkina Faso, Côte

Deletion Mutants of the Attenuated Recombinant ASF Virus, BA71ΔCD2, Show Decreased Vaccine Efficacy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
African swine fever (ASF) has become the major threat to the global swine industry. Lack of available commercial vaccines complicates the implementation of global control strategies. So far, only live attenuated ASF viruses (ASFV) have demonstrated solid

Dynamics of Serological and Mucosal Antibody Responses against African Swine Fever Viruses in Experimentally Infected Pigs

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a lethal swine pathogen, and there is no effective vaccine or treatment available for ASFV infection. Recently, the occurrence of ASFV genotype I and genotype II natural mutants that manifest as subacute, longer‐incubation, or persistent infections poses threats to preventing ASFV infection.

Development of a Dual ELISA for the Detection of CD2v-Unexpressed Lower-Virulence Mutational ASFV

open access: yesLife, 2021
African swine fever virus (ASFV) is an important viral pathogen infecting pigs worldwide throughout the pig industry. CD2v (an outer-membrane glycosylated protein of ASFV)-unexpressed lower-virulence mutants have appeared in China and other countries in ...

African swine fever vaccine: Turning a dream into reality

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 68, Issue 5, Page 2657-2668, September 2021., 2021
Abstract African swine fever (ASF) is currently threatening the swine industry at a global level. The disease originated in Africa has spread to Europe, Asia and Oceania, since 2007, reaching a pandemic dimension. Currently, the spread of ASF is unstoppable and that the development of a safe and effective vaccine is urgently required.

Subsequent Immunization of Pigs with African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) Seroimmunotype IV Vaccine Strain FK-32/135 and by Recombinant Plasmid DNA Containing the CD2v Derived from MK-200 ASFV Seroimmunotype III Strain Does Not Protect from Challenge with ASFV Seroimmunotype III

open access: yesVaccines, 2023
Understanding the immunological mechanisms of protection and the viral proteins involved in the induction of a protective immune response to the African swine fever virus (ASFV) is still limited.

Full genome sequence analysis of African swine fever virus isolates from Cameroon: [Preprint] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
African swine fever is a devastating disease of domestic pigs that has spread across the globe since its introduction into Georgia in 2007. The etiological agent is a large double-stranded DNA virus with a genome of 170 to 180 kb in length depending on ...

The CD2v protein of African swine fever virus interacts with the actin-binding adaptor protein SH3P7

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2004
The predicted extracellular domain of the CD2v protein of African swine fever virus (ASFV) shares significant similarity to that of the CD2 protein in T cells but has a unique cytoplasmic domain of unknown function. Here we have shown that CD2v is expressed as a glycoprotein of approximately 105 kDa in ASFV-infected cells.
