Interplay Between Chemotherapy-Activated Cancer Associated Fibroblasts and Cancer Initiating Cells Expressing CD44v6 Promotes Colon Cancer Resistance

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2022
Cancer-initiating cells (CICs) drive colorectal tumor growth by their supportive niches where CICs interact with multiple cell types within the microenvironment, including cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs).

Gastric Cancer: Pathobiology and Therapeutics

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
Gastric cancer is a multistep process driven by the interplay of microbial virulence, host epithelial injury, and evolving molecular reprogramming. Initiation involves pathogen‐induced epigenetic alterations and the early subversion of key oncogenic signaling networks, facilitating the transition from chronic injury to metaplasia and malignant ...

Recent advances in the construction of humanized animal models and applications in translational medicine

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, Volume 9, Issue 5, Page 914-931, May 2026.
Substantial advances have been achieved in the development of humanized mouse models, which have proven highly valuable in evaluating cancer immunotherapies and elucidating the mechanisms of infectious diseases. There is now a growing shift in research toward larger animal models—such as pigs—that offer greater physiological similarity to humans ...

CD44v6 Dependence of Premetastatic Niche Preparation by Exosomes

open access: yesNeoplasia, 2009
The metastasizing capacity of the rat pancreatic adenocarcinoma BSp73ASML (ASML(wt)) is strikingly reduced by a knockdown of CD44v4-v7 (ASML(kd)). We used this model to analyze the role of the CD44 variant isoform (CD44v) in (pre)metastatic niche formation. Intrafootpad injections of ASML(wt)-, but not ASML(kd)-conditioned medium (CM), strongly promote

CAR T Cells Redirected to CD44v6 Control Tumor Growth in Lung and Ovary Adenocarcinoma Bearing Mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
The main challenge of adoptive therapy with Chimeric Antigen Receptor modified T cells (CAR T) is the application to the field of solid tumors, where the identification of a proper antigen has emerged as one of the major drawbacks to CAR T cell treatment

Nomogram Incorporating CD44v6 and Clinicopathological Factors to Predict Lymph Node Metastasis for Early Gastric Cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Treatment strategy for early gastric cancer depends on the probability of lymph node metastasis. The aim of this study is to develop a nomogram predicting lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer using clinicopathological factors and biomarkers.A ...

TYRO3, AXL, MERTK and Their Ligands in Brain Metastases From Colorectal Cancers

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
TYRO3, AXL, and MERTK are expressed in primary tumors and extra‐cerebral and brain metastases from colorectal cancers. AXL, primarily expressed in endothelial cells, is the more conserved marker between primary tumor and brain metastasis. The Low AXL/High GAS6 ratio is of poor prognosis in metastatic colorectal cancer patients.

CD44v6 specific CAR-NK cells for targeted immunotherapy of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a major challenge for current therapies. CAR-T cells have shown promising results in blood cancers, however, their effectiveness against solid tumors remains a hurdle. Recently, CD44v6-directed CAR-T cells

Integrating oncolytic adenoviruses into combination cancer therapy: Mechanisms, advances and clinical outlook

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Oncolytic adenoviruses synergise with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy to enhance anti‐tumour efficacy. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy increase tumour susceptibility and antigen release through DNA damage, while immunotherapy restores T‐cell activity.
