Diversity in CD8+ T cell differentiation [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Immunology, 2009
CD8(+) T cells are key effector cells of the adaptive immune system, however their activity must be tightly regulated to allow pathogen clearance whilst preventing immunopathology and autoimmunity. In this review, we summarise the diversity of responses that CD8(+) T cells make to antigenic stimulation with a focus on how CD8(+) T cell responses are ...

The significance of CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocyte infiltration in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesIndian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology
Purpose: To investigate the relationship between the abundance of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in the tumor microenvironment and the prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and to analyze their correlation and explore its clinical value ...

Comparative analysis of immune activation markers of CD8+ T cells in lymph nodes of different origins in SIV-infected Chinese rhesus macaques

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2016
Altered T-cell homeostasis, such as expansion of CD8+ T cells to the secondary lymphatic compartments has been suggested as a mechanism of HIV/SIV-pathogenesis.

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

The combined molecular adjuvant CASAC enhances the CD8+ T cell response to a tumor-associated self-antigen in aged, immunosenescent mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Ineffective induction of T cell mediated immunity in older individuals remains a persistent challenge for vaccine development. Thus, there is a need for more efficient and sophisticated adjuvants that will complement novel vaccine strategies ...

Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in early breast cancers is associated with epithelial–mesenchymal transition and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are associated with early breast cancer response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). This study evaluated EMT and TIL shifts, with immunofluorescence and RNA sequencing, at diagnosis and in residual tumors as potential biomarkers associated with treatment response.

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Perturbed CD8+ T cell TIGIT/CD226/PVR axis despite early initiation of antiretroviral treatment in HIV infected individuals. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
HIV-specific CD8+ T cells demonstrate an exhausted phenotype associated with increased expression of inhibitory receptors, decreased functional capacity, and a skewed transcriptional profile, which are only partially restored by antiretroviral treatment (

KIR+CD8+ and NKG2A+CD8+ T cells are distinct innate-like populations in humans

open access: yesCell Reports, 2023
Summary: Subsets of the human CD8+ T cell population express inhibitory NK cell receptors, such as killer immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs) and NKG2A.

Dendritic Cells and CD8 T Cell Immunity in Tumor Microenvironment

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in the regulation of the balance between CD8 T cell immunity vs. tolerance to tumor antigens. Cross-priming, a process which DCs activate CD8 T cells by cross-presenting exogenous antigens, plays a critical role ...
