Cognate Antigen Stimulation Generates Potent CD8+ Inflammatory Effector T Cells [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2013
Inflammatory reactions are believed to be triggered by innate signals and have a major protective role by recruiting innate immunity cells, favoring lymphocyte activation and differentiation, and thus contributing to the sequestration and elimination of the injurious stimuli.

Cytotoxic CD8+T cells target citrullinated antigens in rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
AbstractThe immune mechanisms that mediate synovitis and joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remain poorly defined. Although increased levels of CD8+T cells have been described in RA, their role in pathogenesis remains unclear. Here we perform single cell transcriptome and T cell receptor (TCR) sequencing of CD8+T cells derived from anti ...

Proteogenomic identification of an immunogenic antigen derived from human endogenous retrovirus in renal cell carcinoma

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2023
CD8+ T cells can recognize tumor antigens displayed by HLA class I molecules and eliminate tumor cells. Despite their low tumor mutation burden, immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) is often beneficial in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Here, using

CD8 T cell ignorance or tolerance to islet antigens depends on antigen dose [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1999
There are two major mechanisms reported to prevent the autoreactivity of islet-specific CD8+T cells: ignorance and tolerance. When ignorance is operative, naïve autoreactive CD8+T cells ignore islet antigens and recirculate without causing damage, unless activated by an external stimulus. In the case of tolerance, CD8+T cells are deleted.

Antigen delivery to dendritic cells shapes human CD4+ and CD8+ T cell memory responses to Staphylococcus aureus. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2017
Intracellular persistence of Staphylococcus aureus favors bacterial spread and chronic infections. Here, we provide evidence for the existence of human CD4+ and CD8+ T cell memory against staphylococcal antigens.

Tumor derived Microvesicles enhance cross-processing ability of clinical grade Dendritic Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Tumor cells release extracellular microvesicles (MVs) in the microenvironment to deliver biological signals to neighbouring cells as well as to cells in distant tissues.

Quantitation of antigen-specific CD8+ T-cell responses

open access: yesImmunology Letters, 1999
Enumeration of antigen-specific CD8+ T-cells has traditionally been largely dependent on the use of techniques that require a period of expansion in vitro. However the recent emergence of methods that can be used directly ex vivo to quantify antigen-specific CD8+ T cells has prompted a re-evaluation of the magnitude of viral-specific cellular immune ...

CD8+ T-cell responses in vaccination: Reconsidering targets and function in the context of chronic antigen stimulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cytotoxic CD8 T cells play important roles in eliminating infected and transformed cells. Owing to their potential for therapeutic applications, significant efforts are dedicated toward developing CD8 T cell-based vaccines.

MHC-based detection of antigen-specific CD8+ T cell responses [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Immunology, Immunotherapy, 2010
The hallmark of adaptive immunity is its ability to recognise a wide range of antigens and technologies that capture this diversity are therefore of substantial interest. New methods have recently been developed that allow the parallel analysis of T cell reactivity against vast numbers of different epitopes in limited biological material.

Activated integrins identify functional antigen-specific CD8+T cells within minutes after antigen stimulation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2018
SignificanceAssessing antigen-specific T cells is crucial for our understanding of immune reactions against pathogens and tumors, and for evaluating immunotherapies in patients. Existing techniques to evaluate the functionality of T lymphocytes all rely on de novo expression of proteins, typically intracellular cytokines, and therefore require ...
