A Rare Case of Vasculitis Patched Necrosis of Cecum due to Behçet’s Disease

open access: yesCase Reports in Surgery, 2017
Isolated cecal necrosis is a rare form of acute ischemic colitis and a rare cause of surgical abdomen. Behçet’s disease is a multisystemic autoimmune condition which can induce vasculitis.

Salmonella Virchow Infection of the Chicken Elicits Cellular and Humoral Systemic and Mucosal Responses, but Limited Protection to Homologous or Heterologous Re-Challenge. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Salmonella enterica serovar Virchow usually causes mild gastroenteritis in humans; however, it is frequently invasive and many isolates are resistant to a broad-range of therapeutic antimicrobials.

Identifying Cytokine Motif‐Containing, Immunomodulatory Bacterial Proteins in Human Gut Microbiome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By building and constructing HMM (Upper left, blue), the authors identify CMCPs in bacteria genomes and CRC related metagenomes and enriched CRC‐related CMCPs (Upper right, blue). They analyze sequence and structural similarity of hits (Lower left, green), test function with engineered EcN delivered to tumors in a mouse tumor model (Lower right, pink ...

Infecções parasitárias do apêndice cecal e suas relações com apendicite aguda Parasitic infection of the appendix and its possible relationship to acute appendicitis

Hepcidin and Host Defense against Infectious Diseases. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hepcidin is the master regulator of iron homeostasis in vertebrates. The synthesis of hepcidin is induced by systemic iron levels and by inflammatory stimuli.

Hepatocyte BDNF Acts as a Novel Immune Checkpoint to Restrain TLR4‐Mediated Acute Hepatitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies hepatocyte‐derived BDNF as an endogenous TLR4 antagonist that alleviates acute hepatitis. BDNF is downregulated in hepatocytes via REST‐mediated transcriptional repression during ALI/ALF. Mechanistically, BDNF binds to TLR4 on macrophages to suppress inflammation.

EEPD1 Inhibition Unleashes Antitumor Immunity in Colorectal Cancer by Activating the cGAS‐STING Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In colorectal cancer, high expression of the DNA repair protein EEPD1 correlates with immune exclusion and poor prognosis. This study demonstrates that EEPD1 depletion induces genomic instability, leading to cytosolic DNA accumulation and subsequent activation of the cGAS‐STING‐type I interferon pathway. This cascade remodels the tumor microenvironment

Pasture intake protects against commercial diet-induced lipopolysaccharide production facilitated by gut microbiota through activating intestinal alkaline phosphatase enzyme in meat geese

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
IntroductionDiet strongly affects gut microbiota composition, and gut bacteria can influence the intestinal barrier functions and systemic inflammation through metabolic endotoxemia.

A Synergistic Hydrogel‐Microalgae Platform for Dual‐Targeting of Intestinal and Neuroimmune Dysfunction in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bioactive hydrogel incorporating Chlorella vulgaris and paeoniflorin within a carboxymethyl chitosan/sodium alginate matrix cross‐linked with genipin is developed for inflammatory bowel disease therapy. The hydrogel exhibits gastric stability and intestine‐responsive release.
