Regulation of protein kinase B (PKB/Akt) by DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) under physiological conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The serine/threonine protein kinase B (PKB/Akt) is a downstream effector of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) and a major regulator of a variety of cellular processes, including metabolism, transcription, survival, proliferation, and growth.

Sequence analysis of cell-free DNA derived from cultured human bone osteosarcoma (143B) cells

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2018
The true importance of cell-free DNA in human biology, together with the potential scale of its clinical utility, is tarnished by a lack of understanding of its composition and origin.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

A DNA vaccine construct incorporating intercellular trafficking and intracellular targeting motifs effectively primes and induces memory B and T cell responses in outbred animals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We developed a vaccine construct in which a BVP22 domain and an invariant-chain major histocompatibility complex class II-targeting motif capable of enhancing dendritic cell antigen uptake and presentation were fused to a sequence encoding a B- and T ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Changes in the nuclear distribution of DNA polymerase alpha and PCNA/cyclin during the progress of the cell cycle, in a cell-free extract of Xenopus eggs

open access: yes, 1989
The nuclear distribution of DNA polymerase alpha and PCNA/cyclin in embryonic nuclei has been investigated, in a cell-free extract of Xenopus eggs that recapitulates a basic cell-cycle in vitro, by indirect immunofluorescence microscopy.

Specific antigen of tumor cell transformed by DNA extracted from SV-40 virus

open access: yes, 1967
In the immunofluorescent study it has been revealed that rabbit sera immunized with transformed cells induced by SV-40 DNA, produce circulating antibody capable of re:lcting with intranuclear antigens synthesized by SV-40 complyte virus transforming ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
