Accounting for animal health in efficiency analysis: An application to Swedish dairy farms

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Poor animal health is a central concern in modern livestock production. Despite the necessity to incorporate animal health in efficiency analysis, the theoretical and empirical developments are limited on this subject. This article appropriately characterizes the axiomatic properties of animal health within a production framework.

Isolation and purification of different high-purity cell populations from pig muscle tissue

open access: yesFood Materials Research
Cultured meat technology is an emerging approach to meat production that generates edible meat tissue by cultivating animal-derived stem cells. Muscle stem cells (MuSCs) are essential seed cells for cultured meat production.

Lysyl Oxidase Reduces Neutrophil Extravasation in Response to P. aeruginosa in an Infection‐on‐a‐Chip Model

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Lysyl oxidase crosslinking of type I collagen decreases neutrophil extravasation through an endothelium during the initial response to P. aeruginosa. This decrease in extravasation is likely due to the increase in VE‐cadherin expression between endothelial cells seeded on LOX‐crosslinked collagen hydrogels.

How do plant-based meat and cell-cultured meat come into existence in personal foodscapes? A qualitative exploration

open access: yes
Novel alternative meat products, such as plant-based meat and cell-cultured meat, can offer more sustainable alternatives to meat which help to mitigate the environmental impacts of current meat consumption. However, they remain marginal parts of everyday diets and awareness for most people, and it remains unclear how exactly alternative meats could ...

Artificial meat? Feasible approach based on the experience from cell culture studies

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2015
This short review is to list pros and cons which are based on the literature and personal experience in cell culture studies related to possible commercial production of artificial meat as functional food. The general view of muscle composition and determinants of meat quality are shortly described.

Over the edge: Empirical evidence for the cliff‐edge model of obstetric selection

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The cliff‐edge model of obstetric selection maintains that larger neonates and smaller birth canals confer a positive selective advantage until labor becomes obstructed and vaginal delivery is no longer possible, eliciting an abrupt reduction in fitness.
