Fatty acid synthesis in cell-free system from rabbit aorta

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1966
The objectives of this study were to identify the subcellular fraction responsible for fatty acid synthesis in rabbit aorta and to determine the effect of cholesterol feeding on the system.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Cell-Free Expression System Derived from a Near-Minimal Synthetic Bacterium

open access: yes, 2023
Cell-free expression (CFE) systems are fundamental to reconstituting metabolic pathways in vitro toward the construction of a synthetic cell. Although an Escherichia coli-based CFE system is well-established, simpler model organisms are necessary to ...

A cell free system for functional centromere and kinetochore assembly Authors

open access: yesNature Protocols, 2012
This protocol describes a cell-free system for studying vertebrate centromere and kinetochore formation. We reconstitute tandem arrays of centromere protein A (CENP-A) nucleosomes as a substrate for centromere and kinetochore assembly.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

3D-Printed Bubble-Free Perfusion Cartridge System for Live-Cell Imaging

open access: yesSensors, 2020
The advent of 3D-printing technologies has had a significant effect on the development of medical and biological devices. Perfusion chambers are widely used for live-cell imaging in cell biology research; however, air-bubble invasion is a pervasive ...

Cell-Free Protein Synthesis by Diversifying Bacterial Transcription Machinery

open access: yesBioTech, 2021
We have evaluated several approaches to increase protein synthesis in a cell-free coupled bacterial transcription and translation system. A strong pargC promoter, originally isolated from a moderate thermophilic bacterium Geobacillus stearothermophilus ...

Development of a Bacillus subtilis cell-free transcription-translation system for prototyping regulatory elements.

open access: yesMetabolic Engineering, 2016
Cell-free transcription-translation systems were originally applied towards in vitro protein production. More recently, synthetic biology is enabling these systems to be used within a systematic design context for prototyping DNA regulatory elements ...
