Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Cell‐to‐cell movement of TMV RNA is temperature‐dependent and corresponds to the association of movement protein with microtubules [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, 2000
SummaryThe movement protein (MP) of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) is essential for spread of the viral RNA genome from cell to cell. During infection, the MP associates with microtubules, and it has been proposed that the cytoskeleton transports the viral ribonucleoprotein complex from ER sites of synthesis to plasmodesmata through which infection spreads

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The roles of movement and coat proteins in the transport of tobamoviruses between plant cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Tobamovirus is a large group of positive-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses that cause diseases in a broad range of plant species, including many agronomically important crops. The number of known Tobamovirus species has been on the rise in recent years,

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A Protocol to Measure the Extent of Cell-to-cell Movement of RNA Viruses in Planta

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2014
Here, we present a simple and rapid protocol to measure the extent of cell-to-cell movement of RNA viruses in planta. To do that, the green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene was incorporated into the genome of Melon necrotic spot virus (MNSV) as a coat ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Genetic Analysis of the Cell-to-Cell Movement of Beet Yellows Closterovirus

open access: yesVirology, 2000
A beet yellows closterovirus (BYV) variant expressing green fluorescent protein and leaves of BYV local lesion host Claytonia perfoliata were used to reveal genetic requirements for BYV cell-to-cell movement in leaf epidermis and mesophyll. A series of mutations targeting genes that are not involved in amplification of the viral positive-strand RNA was

Cucumber mosaic virus-Plant Interactions: Identification of 3a Protein Sequences Affecting Infectivity, Cell-to-Cell Movement, and Long-distance Movement

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2001
Mutants of the Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) movement protein (MP) were generated and analyzed for their effects on virus movement and pathogenicity in vivo.

A live-imaging protocol to track cell movement in the Xenopus embryo

open access: yesSTAR Protocols, 2021
Summary: Tracking individual cell movement during development is challenging, particularly in tissues subjected to major remodeling. Currently, most live imaging techniques in Xenopus are limited to tissue explants and/or to superficial cells.
