Reaction-Diffusion System in a Vesicle with Semi-Permeable Membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study the Schloegl model in a vesicle with semi-permeable membrane. The diffusion constant takes a smaller value in the membrane region, which prevents the outflow of self-catalytic product. A nonequilibrium state is stably maintained inside of the vesicle.

Permeability of porous foamy materials [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 97, 053111 (2018), 2017
In this paper, we study the effects of both the amount of open cell walls and their aperture sizes on solid foams permeability. FEM flow simulations are performed at both pore and macroscopic scales. For foams with fully interconnected pores, we obtain a robust power-law relationship between permeability and membrane aperture size.

Experimental and chemometric studies of cell membrane permeability [PDF]

open access: yesChemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems, 2016
[Abstract] Cell membrane permeability (P) governs the molecules or ions to transport through the cell membrane. In this study, we measured P of ruminal microbes in different initial levels of surface tension (ST) and specific surface area (SSA). Data of P in present study and published data of pH, ammonia concentration, digestibility of neutral ...

Can graphene bilayers be the membrane mimetic materials? "Ion channels" in graphene-based nanostructures [PDF]

open access: yesRadioelectronics. Nanosystems. Information Technologies, 8(2):154-170, 2016, 2018
The prospects of application of graphene and related structures as the membrane mimetic materials, capable of reproducing several biomembrane functions up to the certain limit, are analyzed in the series of our papers. This paper considers the possibility of the ion channel function modeling using graphene and its derivatives.

A probabilistic model of diffusion through a semi-permeable barrier [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Diffusion through semipermeable structures arises in a wide range of processes in the physical and life sciences. Examples at the microscopic level range from artificial membranes for reverse osmosis to lipid bilayers regulating molecular transport in biological cells to chemical and electrical gap junctions.

CO2 Permeability of Biological Membranes and Role of CO2 Channels

open access: yesMembranes, 2017
We summarize here, mainly for mammalian systems, the present knowledge of (a) the membrane CO2 permeabilities in various tissues; (b) the physiological significance of the value of the CO2 permeability; (c) the mechanisms by which membrane CO2 ...

Femtosecond optoinjection of intact tobacco BY-2 cells using a reconfigurable photoporation platform. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
A tightly-focused ultrashort pulsed laser beam incident upon a cell membrane has previously been shown to transiently increase cell membrane permeability while maintaining the viability of the cell, a technique known as photoporation.

Gas Permeability Test Protocol for Ion-Exchange Membranes

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2022
The membrane-based electrolysis of water is a growing topic of interest due to the advantages of employing membranes in hydrogen production efficiency and system safety over the traditional alkaline water electrolysis. Ion-exchange membranes with low gas

Creeping flow of micropolar fluid parallel to the axis of cylindrical cells with porous layer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The present paper considers the flow of micropolar fluid through a membrane modeled as a swarm of solid cylindrical particles with porous layer using the cell model technique. Traditional boundary conditions on hypothetical cell surface were added with an additional condition: the no spin condition / no couple stress condition. Expressions for velocity
