Cell migration is required during development of the nervous system. The regulatory mechanisms for this process, however, are poorly elucidated. We show here that expression of or exposure to the neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) strongly affected the motile behaviour of glioma cells independently of homophilic NCAM interactions.Expression of the ...

Mathematical Models of Cell Motility
Cell Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2007Cell motility is an essential biological action in the creation, operation and maintenance of our bodies. Developing mathematical models elucidating cell motility will greatly advance our understanding of this fundamental biological process. With accurate models it is possible to explore many permutations of the same event and concisely investigate ...

Cell motility in fibroblast aggregates
Journal of Cell Science, 1978ABSTRACT The stable arrangements of cells in tissues and organs require that most tissue cells, whatever their inherent abilities for active pseudopod-directed locomotion, remain confined to the boundaries of their parent tissues and organs for the lifetime of the organism.

Many specific endothelial cell functions in vivo, such as control of vessel wall permeability or non-thrombogenicity, require continuity of the endothelial cell monolayer (17). Endothelial cell motility is one of several mechanisms which secure the integrity of the vascular intima during physiologic replacement of endothelial cells and provide rapid ...

Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are the current modalities of tumor management. However, in systemic disease, predicted patients’ cure can be achieved in but a few tumor diseases. Based on previous basic research we have highlighted that the loss of cell-cell adhesion in association with an increased tumor cell motility is an essential feature ...

Tumor cell motility is required for invasion and metastasis. The locomotory machinery of the cell includes cell projections called pseudopodia which are regulated by a complicated linkage between cell surface receptors or sensors and the internal cytoskeleton. Recently a new class of motility stimulating cytokines have been identified.
