Sirolimus for Extracranial Arteriovenous Malformations: A Scoping Review of the Evidence in Syndromic and Non‐Syndromic Cases

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare, high‐flow, vascular anomalies that can occur either sporadically or as part of a genetic syndrome. AVMs can progress with serious morbidity and even mortality if left unchecked. Sirolimus is an mTOR inhibitor that is effective in low‐flow vascular malformations; however, its role in AVMs is unclear.

Human Influenza A Virus (IAV) Decreases Mitochondrial Respiration of Infected MDCK Cell [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Public Health, 2005
Studies of interaction between viruses and mitochondria have shown that they can affect the mitochondria and induce mitochondrial alterations. Sometimes this interaction leads to induction or inhibition of apoptosis in infected cells. Interaction between

Depletion of RIPK3 or MLKL blocks TNF-driven necroptosis and switches towards a delayed RIPK1 kinase-dependent apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In human cells, the RIPK1-RIPK3-MLKL-PGAM5-Drp1 axis drives tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-induced necroptosis through mitochondrial fission, but whether this pathway is conserved among mammals is not known. To answer this question, we analyzed the presence

NRASQ61R Expression in Lymphatic Endothelial Cells Causes Enlarged Vessels, Hemorrhagic Chylous Effusions, and High Mortality in a Mouse Model of Kaposiform Lymphangiomatosis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Kaposiform lymphangiomatosis (KLA) is an aggressive complex lymphatic anomaly. Patients exhibit malformed lymphatic vessels and often develop hemorrhagic effusions and elevated angiopoietin‐2 (Ang‐2) levels. A somatic NRAS p.Q61R (NRASQ61R) mutation has been associated with KLA.

Erythrocyte Respiratory Activity of the Mitochondrial Complex of the Black Sea Thornback Ray (Raja clavata L.) under the Influence of Certain Activators and Inhibitors In Vitro

open access: yesFishes, 2022
Global warming implies the risk of a changing oxygen regime in the seas and oceans of our planet. The mitochondrial complex of nuclear erythrocytes of cartilaginous fish, as the energy basis of blood cells, has repeatedly encountered such climatic ...

Streptomycin-induced inflammation enhances Escherichia coli gut colonization through nitrate respiration. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
UnlabelledTreatment with streptomycin enhances the growth of human commensal Escherichia coli isolates in the mouse intestine, suggesting that the resident microbial community (microbiota) can inhibit the growth of invading microbes, a phenomenon known ...

Pulmonary Dysfunction Is Associated With Sleep Study Abnormalities in Children With Sickle Cell Disease: A Multicenter Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pulmonary dysfunction and sleep abnormalities are common in children with sickle cell disease (SCD) and are associated with worse clinical outcomes. Whether spirometry abnormalities are associated with polysomnography (PSG) findings remains unclear.

Contribution of cell elongation to the biofilm formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa during anaerobic respiration. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a gram-negative bacterium of clinical importance, forms more robust biofilm during anaerobic respiration, a mode of growth presumed to occur in abnormally thickened mucus layer lining the cystic fibrosis (CF) patient airway ...
